Would anyone work in a prison if given the oppertunity? Even though knowing that you may not be able to go home to your loved ones. Or knowing the dangers that lay behind the razor wire, high walls, and electric fence? As crazy as it may seem I took a job working in a state prison. It was a bit intimidating at first walking through the gate having to be shut inside knowing i may not be going home at the end of my shift. Even though I work in the pharmacy inside the prison still have to walk by inmates and always wonder to myself why they are there. It's crazy, hard work, and most of all stressful as all get out. But it's really rewarding. Have always wanted to get into criminal justice, so to me it's facinating to see a different side of the criminal justice. Maybe I'm just crazy lol. what do you all think? I'm open minded to answers.

Hi. ksquires2005. Welcome to myLot! You are very brave. When I was a teenager, I wanted to major in Criminal Justice in college, but I changed my mind. I did not want to major in this field at all. I would rather work in the office but not as an police officer. I think that you enjoy your job, and it is normal to find it fascinating. If you did not find your job fascinating, then you would be scared and depressed. I know that I could not work in a prison at all. I am just afraid to work around inmates that are very dangerous.

I worked in a prison and I'm also a street LEO. The prison ... well, it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I prefer the street. Unfortunately, the world of law enforcement is still a bit bias, especially in small communities. Finding employment full-time with these departments (besides the prisons) has been very challenging and in all honesty, very frustrating. I have done very well in my law enforcement studies (4.0 GPA) unfortunately that doesn't seem to matter around here. I've considered giving it up.

personally I wouldn'r as I don't think I am the right person to do so, I think it would take a certain type of person, I have a friend who did work in a mens prison and it was very tough and you have to be be strong and tough to be able to protect yourself.

Honestly, I am a big scardy cat and I would probably not last and get all sorts of nightmares, lol but I mean it'd be a good opportunity to maybe view how it's like but not work there permanently (well for me).
