OK... Let me clarify cheap here to dispel any wrong ideas. I am not referring to a woman who sells herself and sleeps around. No... ha ha I am referring to a woman who shops around for great deals on clothes, household items etc. and forever looks like a million bucks was spent on her and her home . Are you out there in mylot or do you know someone who is like that?
I am that kind of lady. So are my sisters. Growing up on meager resources and being proud people can be accredited for that. I do pamper myself to some expensive stuff sometimes but then there is much more satisfaction from getting in on deals and coming away with great and durable items.
There are girls and guys who buy clothes so often and at a price that would make me think twice who admire the way my sisters and I carry ourselves and our sense of style. Hey two or three for the price of one is a great way to go. My sister who follows me is especially good and putting stuff together as she is artistic.
My brother is the same way. He has a sense of style and always looks nice when going out. So men are not omitted though the topic says lady
I was wondering how many of you guys here buy stuff cheaply but make sure they are of good quality. Are you cheap but classy? Or do you prefer to spend on name brand items. Either way I am always impressed with a man or woman who can put themselves together nicely. Pleasing to look at and I like nicely kept homes inside and outside. It can be amazing how much stuff around the home can be used to build its aesthetic quality.

I am the queen of charity shops! Well thats what my family call me anyway. I got a Brand new fridge for £30, a newish leather sofa for £26, a cooker for £40. I buy all my clothes from charity shops at much lower value than you would pay in a shop. I make clothes for my family and paint alot for my home.
I think the only thing I have bought from new was my hoover (which was stupidly expensive). The only reason I spent so much on it is because I thought I deserved it! Its a Dyson Ball and I got it when they first come out and werent around any of my charity shops yet lol.
I wasnt bought up this way. I always had new everything and as soon as I moved out on my own I decided to save as much money as possible for a 'rainy day'.
I am now quite well off, Im not rich but I live comfortably and dont want for anything!
I am shocked when I see people buying a pair of shoes or a bag for an obscene amount! I couldnt justify it!

That definitely sounds like my kind of thing. I have not been as fortunate as I would like with the appliances and furniture as those in the cheap stores may look lovely but you can tell they are just that... cheap. But I do get good deals. Good for you finding those great deals.
It is so nice though when one is able to comfortable live from what they earn even if its not a whopper. I just find it ridiculous to squander my hard earned money on overly expensive clothes etc.
I sew as well though it has been some time since I made myself anything.
Thumbs up to you and thanks for sharing.

Im an early bird.. First one in the charity shop in the mornings get what I can first! The quicker your in there the more chance of finding the 'gold items'.
I sew, knit and crochet so can make a fair few things!

Crochet and knitting... I certwould like to learn those. My cousin who does well at croching moved away many years ago and I tried a bit on my own but could only manage the chain stitching she had started teaching me. Wonder if I even remember that now. I have seen women here do some fabulous dresses, swim wear etc. all crocheted and style to to the order of the client. It is really great when you are good with your hands.
Its nice making my own bed set and drapes as well. I really should get back to doing some of that. I tend to get a bit wild when I go into the fabric stores and start looking at the trimmings and fabrics.
I saw a lady with some awesome cushions she made the other day. Hopefully I can get her to come to my community group and teach us a bit of the trade.
I really do not know any charity shops here but there are a number stores and places where there are great deals to be had. For furniture I like having them custom built and since there is no shortage of tradesmen in that area here its all about finding a good one with a reasonable price.
The couches need rewrapping. Im sure some people would throw them out but it was rewrapped once and no one could tell it was not new and just coming from the store. The frame is stil very sturdy and I think its a waste to just throw them out so to the repair shop they will go.

I'm definitely one of those people! I try to buy very nice things at 20% or less of the original price and I have closets full of designer clothing, cashmere sweaters, and my house is filled with original artwork and antique furniture. I even have leather shoes that I bought for less than $10 and a new car I bought for thousands off the sticker price.

Good luck! All I can suggest is checking out the internet. I spent about ten hours researching prices, the negotiations took three rounds of emails, and the actual process of buying the car and getting it home took about four hours.

Good topic, I'm just like this. I like to look around for clearance and sales to dig for nice stuff, clothes, shoes for cheap so at the same time I can save money on other stuff. I like expensive stuff once a while to pamper myself as well. But digging good deals is just my habit, I was thinking what if I hit big and won some big $$?? I think i would still do what I am doing, I think it is a good habit.

Hi mermaidivy. Thanks. I dont think I would change either. I would definitely pamper myself a bit more but I just love the ability to add personal touches around the home with inexpensive items. People who spend more than you do are always amazed and think you must have spent a lot to get this or that done. Such comfort in saying no it just cost this much. Then comes the drop jaw and incredulous look .
Now when I can make a dress and walk amongst those in the oh so expensive dresses with pride and comfort imagine the feeling.
Keep on being a Cheap but classy lady.

I am a huge discount, clerance person. Always and only shopping on the discount racks for clothes and always trying to get the best deal for everything. Sometimes i will buy clothes will holes in them even though they are already reduced beacuse most things can be fixed better then they were in the first place.
I shop at stores for home goods like in Florida our Bealls Outlets stores, DDS Discount and Ross. And when i have a coupon for Kohls i will go there and try to get some good stuff too.
Im always on the hunt for good deals and i like consignment stores as well for household items and even like going to goodwill to get a good bargain on things.
Im a hunter and always looking and keeing my eyes open for the good deals.
I also am one to stock up on christmas decorations for the following year when they do go on sale. I buy things after season to even get a better deal on things and of course im saving money too.

Sounds like you definitely know your way to all the deal spots . I know what you mean about damaged clothes looking better than they originally would when they are repaired. As someone who sews I have learnt this over time.
Great going on using up the deals for your benefit . Stay Cheap but classy.

I am one of your kind as I value my money. No, I don't buy cheap clothing, I buy late fashion instead of latest fashion. The thing is same, late fashion is more economical that the latest. However I think the dignity you and your sisters show matters more than the value you invest into your clothing, that is good. Best of luck.

You can find some really good deals if just shop around. I love Goodwill. I have found so many great name brand products that look just like new and are a fraction of the price. Yard sales are another great source. I am like you. I am always looking for great deals. Not too long ago I got some name brand hair care items for free. 25 to be exact. They eat cost about 3 bucks but with a coupon I got them for free. I was right proud of myself. I was able to share with friends and family and still have plenty for me.
