I always get up at 2 a.m. at night these nights for my baby, sometimes I cannot fall back asleep even though I am tired but I just have to force myself to go to bed otherwise, I don't have enough energy to look after my baby during the day.

I think your ability to wake up and sleep again, as desired is motivated by the need to take care of your baby. It's nice that you have a reason to wake up for and at the same time the motivation for you to get enough sleep/rest. I bet you're a really good mom for providing what your baby needs. Thanks for sharing and happy myLotting! =]

The problem is...you're thinking about sleep and trying to force your body to do so. This makes it very hard and frustrating, especially when you are thinking about how many hours you have left to get the rest you need to continue with the next day. My suggestion to you is, get out of bed and warm up a glass of milk. I know it sounds gross, but it worked when we were all babies, so why wouldn't it work now as adults? Once you're finished your warm milk, watch 15 minutes of TV and then go back to bed. This has work for me in the past and I'll probably do it again next time it happens. Although, now I get off of work at 2am and don't get into bed until 4am. lol

I'm usually a pretty good sleeper and my wife always wonders how I'm able to fall asleep so fast. I have two secret ways (that work for me). If I'm already pretty tired, I see how long I can hold my eyes open. Try not to blink too much and when you feel your eyes getting heavy, try to hold them open. The other trick I usually do, more than that one, is close my eyes and try to focus on the back of my eyelids. After a few seconds, it might feel as if you're crossing your eyes with the lids closed, but if you can try to look through your eyelids (that's the best I can explain it), I usually end up asleep in 2 minutes.

I've tried drinking something warm to get me to sleep. I had chocolate though, not milk. It feels nice after you drink it, especially in a rainy night. However, its effects are just passing, it doesn't stay long enough to get me to sleep. Maybe I have to drink more next time. 2 glasses maybe + a really boring book, that could work. LOL... Thanks for sharing! =]

I would have opened the television and tried to watch some shows first (if I don't really need to get up early the next day), but if I have an early trip the next morning, I would open a book or magazine and I will start to read. Hehehe. I am a book lover, but sometimes books would just get me so sleepy, and I often sleep with a book on my face or beside me in my bed.

I do read books but I at times I've observed, reading made me sleepy. I didn't say it out loud (or maybe type it out loud) because I was afraid avid book readers may find my comment insulting. But as you said, your a bookworm yourself, and you do get sleepy while reading. So I guess, I'm in a safe zone now. LOL =]

oh, I know this. The only thing I can recommend is don't think about it (whatever 'it' is) anymore. As long as your brain is very active you won't be able to sleep. However, currently my answer to your question (regarding myself) would be: turn that damn buzzing electricity meter off!!! rofl

the trick is to stop thinking! Easier said than done. And if that doesn't work, try thinking of something else :D But I guess that was not what I suggested in the first place :/ But if you constantly change your thoughts that may make you tired and finally you will automatically stop thinking ... I think.

This conversation is really, like really, getting confusing! LOL... But anyway, I got your point. If to stop thinking doesn't work, then I have to think of something else. It becomes funnier the more I read it again and again. And hey, thanks! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! =]

when i was in the 3PM to 11PM shift, this was my problem. usually i read so that i will get sleepy, but when i got my laptop i just tire my eyes playing games. :)
drinking milk would help too. if you are not a bookwordm, playing computer games would help. if you do not have a computer, you watch TV or a movie.
hope this helps!.. happy mylotting!

Well, I might suggest that you go try and do something. Like watch something on television, read a book or a magazine, or something like that. This usually does help me fall asleep when I'm having a hard time falling asleep. So maybe you can try doing something like that.

If you have been tossing and turning for over 30 minutes, then perhaps you could find something productive, like Mylotting, watching TV. You could also do some reading - i suggest the bible, which could after a while make you sleepy. At least you went to sleep with nice thoughts.

When I fail to sleep in the night at about 2am, I usually move to my sitting room to watch the television. I think television sometimes make me to sleep very well again especially if the tv program are uninteresting

Well, if you can't sleep then get up and watch some t.v. Give it an hour and you'll be feeling the need to sleep. It makes no sense to stay in the bed tossing and turning because it won't make you sleep any faster. Might as well get some entertainment.

I absolutely agree that staying in bed tossing and turning doesn't get you even a bit of sleep! However, when I watch TV and I find the show really interesting, I have this annoying craving to finish it. More like the TV's controlling me not to turn it off yet. LOL... =]
