during the past, my room mate's music did not bother me.
but now, i think i have a selective sound irritant as i can't get my sleep with his slow, soothing as i thought before and played lowly music.
i always get awoken at the middle of the night to turn his music off. he asks me why did i turn off while in the first place, i'm the one who suggested the accompaniment of subtle musics with our slight snoring during our bed time..
i just don't know but it seems like my sleeps are being disturbed with any kind of music plays at this time!

Yes i can. I can sleep even at the noisiest place. The loud noise, the light turned on, tv movies whatever don't bother me. I can sleep almost anywhere lol

Music is among a few thing closest to my heart.
So i don't have any problem in it. I used to keep my cellphone or FM on throughout the night or i just set auto-off and used to sleep while listening sweet soothing songs.

I'm not bothered with smooth and soulful music at all. It helps me sleep peacefully and tightly. But, as long as its volume is also low. I don't think I'd be able to doze off with even the smoothest music if it is being played aloud. It becomes an irritant already.
Also, if I am stressed. Music that has something to do with flash back memories are a no-no to me especially when I am so tired. It makes me feel stress up even more.
YOu can perhaps suggest to your room mate to lower the volume if you no longer feel relax listening to his music. Or maybe he should change it. Playing the same tune, melody or music every night can be stressful also. Play something else next time.

well we have the same type of music. what he played are my collections too and it takes weeks continuously playing before it will go back to number 1 again..
i think that the main reason why i'm not getting my tight sleep again is that, the AC, the fan are off. only one sound has going and my ears did not like it. there should be two or three sounds at a time. that's the set-up my ears are used to.
since it's cold outside and the temperature this week has been lower compared to the previous weeks, we turned our AC off and we do not want to get lower room temperature. this is one thing i have learned that when the room is silent, there should not be any required kind of sound being around like the music being played as it could be a bothersome!!

Yes I do. I always listen to music when I go to sleep, and often times I fall sleep with it still playing. I'm a heavy sleeper so I don't usually wake up in the middle of the night, unless when someone's waking me up of course, and so far there are no instances that I've been disturbed by the music. I hope my sleeping habits don't change though, because I don't think I'll like that when I'm also disturbed by the music in the middle of the night.

Yes I know what you mean, I'm like that too! I mean with the lyrics stuck with my head.. Sometimes my sleep is delayed if I try to understand more the lyrics lol. But then again I'm a deep sleeper so I easily put myself to sleep, which in this case, is opposite of you. Hehe. Good day! :)

well, i'm a horrible sleeper that even with the use of ear plugs, if i know that the music is still there, i can't sleep as the lyrics that i heard last will register in my mind and it will continue playing in my head! lol sounds strange but it's true! can't help it.... maybe, mindset may work but it takes time...

I don't like to sleep if there's anything that bothers me... I mean I can't sleep. Is like I need everything calm so that I can sleep.
I can't sleep when there's any sound or smell. I hate specially when there's any neighbor in a party, because they put the music really high so that I can't sleep. I've thought in calling police when my neighbors do that.
So I think I'd hate that there's any music playing in my own house.

Well I like music, but I don't like that there are people dancing over me, I mean, I live in an apartment building, so I can hear people dancing just over me, and the music they dance is not the music I like.
I listen to rock and metal songs, but they like reggeaton or salsa... so I hate it... you may think I'm a boring neighbor, but I don't like that kind of parties that don't let me sleep.
Are you latin or do you know spanish??... or those are just phrases you know?

i see, now i understand.
i was born in spain, my father's hometown. but, i was raised and grew up in bengalore, india, my mom's hometown.. at the age of 13, i went back to granada until i graduated high school. i speak 4 languages lol... arabic, english, hindi, and spanish.....

hay dios! you are so strict!
partying neighbors, of course there must be something celebrated in that occasion with the availability of everything to call it a party... there is a loud music, the smell of foods and everything!
gosh don't call the police or else you'll be in trouble with your own neighbors.. don't be a boring neighbor you know.... lol .... well i don't like the music being played the last 2 nights but it does not mean that i will not like music forever...
so if i will be going to your place and play some latin tango or chachacha or even mariachi or flamenco, are you going to hate me because you don't like music? that could be fun you know....

That is in part because in your sleeping mind you are trying to sing the words. To cope with the snoring sounds you need a fan or some background noise that does not have words. They call that white noise. I have a radio that will play nature sounds. I can sleep if I have an ocean sound, but if I have the choice that has birds, then I feel like it is morning and I wake up. Hope it gets better for you.

well, i live in the province where i am close to nature. all good all natural. calling of toads and frogs at eight in the night invites you to sleep! lol croaking of roosters at four in the dawn wakes you up! sound of chicks and hens in the morning signifies time for breakfast. when your body shadows compresses against the sun, time for lunch and when the sun waxes and turns red in the west, our leisure time etc...! i grown and raised up with this kind of environment and good parents and i have to admit that i'm having a hard time describing how is life working and staying far away from home and far way different from my home country! lol

I can imagine that you miss that natural routine. If you could play a recording of those sounds I think you would be able to sleep better, but I understand that you may not be able to get such.

Hi zills66, I listen to music to relax myself. If I could I would like to play music softly while working or sleeping. Of course they must be the types of music which suit my taste. I pick the type of music depending on situation or environment. If light and sentimental music is played I could sleep soundly and comfortably even it's airing non-stop the whole night And it must be broasdcasted in an appropriate low volume. It would turned to be a disturbance totally if it's played in high volume. I could hardly tolerate the disgusting high volume and would feel uneasy and can't sleep nicely
Happy posting

hello lkbooi,
thanks for your response here.
i always have a background when i work on something.
the music being played during sleeping hours won't
be a problem for me if there are other sounds
that could drown the music's sound itself. it could be running AC or Fan.
i think that's a nice resemblance.
i could get my urge to sleep but only a half sleep as my mind continue saying the lyrics in my head. that's the reason why i wake up in the middle of the night to turn the music off.

oh, that's nice to hear my friend! you know, i don't used to sleep alone as i'm having nightmares. my roommate that i'm talking about actually is from downstairs. he owned one room there. i imported him because i'm afraid to sleep alone... firstly, he told me that he likes music being played at night and so i said yes, there is no problem, but now, since the AC is off, i do not want any noise i just want complete silence....

I have responded to another thread almost similar like this one.
I don't sleep with music on. I prefer the quietness.
It depends on the kind of music/songs you listen to. Other factors can also come to play - how's your day, what did u you do before you sleep, etc.

hello zills! well, i always loved to play music when trying to sleep. it makes me feel relaxed just as long as the music does not bother me at all. well, i am talking about mellow music when i am trying to sleep. if it's rock or metal, of course i can't sleep with that.
well, there are also times if i am really sleepy,no matter how the sound does, it doesn't even bother me. maybe i am just used to listening to music in those cases.

..i personally can zills66, sometimes if i can't get myself to sleep playing my type of music makes me feel relax and later on will see myself sleepy already. probably it depends on the music you are accustomed with for you to get that sleepy mode..

yeah and it's pretty hard to start all over again when we just got half night score. well, when i sleep i want a continuous sleep and just wake up when it's time to lead to office. i don't used to be awaken up by some personal necessities like to pee or to poo or something. so the music really disturbed my sleep with the past two nights!!!

Yes I can especially when the music is played in soft volume and mellow rhythm. I'm selective too. I hardly could sleep when music played is irritating and ear-splitting. It annoys me much.

hello aw aw!
well those natural sounds produce by nature are also called white noise! i have one responder who said that although i knew they were!
those without song lyrics you mean. yes, our minds would tend to follow those lyrics just in case. so we are exerting some energy because of our memory.. our brains tends to function isn't it? that might be the reason why we got awoken up by nightmares and various night dreams!!!
