I'm 22 and been unemployed for 2 1/2 years. I have been having a hard time finding a job since then. I know I need the skill to get the job I want but I cannot afford school and volunteering is my only option to gain new skills

A couple of ideas for you.... What area of the world do you live in? And what kind of job are you wanting to get?
If you have a State ran work search office, they usually have skills classes that you could qualify for. Also, you can get grants to go to school and loans that do not have to be paid back until you finish school.
I live in Texas and we have an organization that's called Good Will. Once upon a time the Good Will helped people with disabilities to work, but now they've expanded into offering skills classes available to everyone....some of which can be taken online. You might try looking them up, maybe you could take some of the courses they offer online.

Well, I'm sure that there is an unemployment office somewhere there in NY. Call them up or go there and discuss your options for some classes. They might even know of some jobs that are hiring and will help you pay for classes. Some employers (not all, but some) will make the offer to repay you for classes that you take. The classes usually assist you in doing your job for them so upon obtaining good grades for certain classes they will help you in paying for them.
You're young (not a bad thing!) and some employers would be very happy to discuss your future education as long as you agree to stay employed by them for a certain length of time after getting your education. You have lots of opportunities, you just have to knock on the right doors to get your information.
Good luck to you!
