Does this make any sense to you?

In the state of Illinois we are deep in debt. So naturally there was a raise in the income taxes, which is all well and good, a one percent raise in tax. However, we then turn around and give raises to several government officials, including the Governor. I think that giving raises to government officials should be one of the last things that we should do. Especially now that Illinois is now one of the highest states with an income tax rate and government officials are the one's getting raises, which leads to more money being burned.

Great stewards of your money. Tell them how you feel with your vote. I think politicians should be paid on merit. If the economy is failing, they should not be paid.

Yeah hopefully I and many others will make them well informed that something needs to change with my vote. They should be paid on merit, that is true. And especially when things are failing, they should find a way to fix it and get held accountable when there are problems, not get rewarded for failing. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

In private industry, you are accountable. If you are not doing your job, you lose it. It is far past time to do the same with our politicians.

I could not have said it any better. It is all about accountability. Everyone else is doing it. Therefore, there is a need for politicians to do so right now. Of course, one could say that we would not be in the state that were in if there is some accountability to begin with.

As long as the governing bodies decide when they get raises they will continue to get them. Imagine if you were in charge of handing out raises at your job. You certainly wouldn't skip over yourself at raise time lol. It's sad the way they handle things but it's the way it goes anymore.

That is indeed the problem for sure. That just proves that there need to be a couple more of checks. However who is to say that these checks are not going to be biased. There are just so many things that can go wrong and it is just a part of how the government works these days. Or any day, but it just seems worse because the economy is at a bad state. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

that seems to be the way that most states, provinces and even countries do things. they take care of their own and don't seem to worry about everyone else.

It is really horrid to think about this happening everywhere. How soon that politicians forget who put them in that nice position for the most part. The people who are going to get screwed over most of all. It just leads to corruption, beyond everything. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

It could be worse. When I lived in Miami they laid off hundreds of workers, gave 5% paycuts to all government employees that were retroactive 6 months, and in the meantime the corrupt mayor gave hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars in raises to himself and a handful of his cronies. He made the raises retroactive also thinking he could sneak them through the pay freeze as costs that were already present. The worst part is that the lazy populace couldn't get off their a$$es for the recall vote so that scumbag is still in office.

Wow that is pretty bad to say the least. It just shows how little people in power really value the people who in part put them there. And it just shows the sad truth. While some people might be willing to take a stand, not enough of them are going to. Therefore since a lot of them might not, you lead to the ugly truth that many more of them will see that nothing that they do will make a difference, so they'll give up. Not a healthy attitude to have but one that is out there. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I think government officials are all big jokes! They don't deserve the pay they get! I get so frustrated with them and they all seem to be the same no matter what rheotric they are spewing before election it all ends up the same.

Indeed, it would be one thing if they were doing good. However, they are not doing their jobs and they get these raises all of the time. So that encourages them to continue to put in these lackluster performances. Which is really just something that is going to keep dragging us down. It would be different if they do their jobs right but they rarely do. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
