I think that computers have really come a very long way in the twenty plus years that I have been on earth. It is really amazing how far computers have come in such a short time. When I was born, the Internet was something that was scarcely used by normal people. These days, could you imagine a world without the Internet? It was possible for sure, but it was a lifetime ago for sure. Just imagine what computers are going to be in the next twenty five years. They're going to get more compact with more memory(and perhaps more expensive but that's another story). I think that the Internet will take over us all, whether we like it or not.

Indeed they are a huge part of our lives. For better or for worse. The revolution of technology has already begun and I think that the entire world is like that, so there are times where we need to go with the flow. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Yeah there are going to be a lot of disadvantages. Some advantages, but there will be some disadvantages. Still technology grows, for better or for worse. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

My first encounter with computers was as an undergraduate in the 1960s. That first computer took a whole large room for the computing power that a small calculator has today. Programming was done by typing up punch cards that then had to be fed into to a machine that convert them into machine language and produced many more cards that were fed into the computer. It was a slow and time consuming process. So I have seen an enormous growth in computers since then, from that monster to programmable calculators to early desktops to laptops to such thing as phones and other hand held computers.

The changes have been pretty amazing. I learned to type on a manual typewriter, and when the first word processors came out, I bought one. It turned out to be an awful piece of cr-p, and I wound up stomping it into pieces because I was so frustrated with it. That was before there were any affordable personal computers. My first computer had to be programmed, and that's when I found out that I would never be any good at programming. And to save your work, you had to hook it up to a tape recorder. But things did get better. I had a Commodore 64 that was like a miracle, even if saves were so slow that I could go make a cup of tea or coffed while it was processing.
Now I have a brand-new Mac Mini with more hard disc space than I'll ever use. 320GB? I remember hoping I'd have enough money someday to afford a 40MB hard drive. From blocky letters and graphics to resolution so great that you can't even see the pixels is another big change. I love my computer.

Yes it is going to be insane the memory capacity for computers. A computer that was a gigabyte of memory was far off at one time for many. Now it is not all that uncommon to see some hard drives with a terabyte of memory(which I can't ever see myself ever using but I'm glad I have it). Still we've come a long way and if we've come this far, there is still a long way ago. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
