hey. im 22, ive been playing guitar since i was 5. It's a shame you regret not learning earlier, but you can pick it up anytime! my advice would be pop down your local music shop, and buy an electronic tuner. There will probably be some youtube clips, or even ask the guy in the store HOW to tune a guitar. once you have that down, the website mentioned above is pretty awesome for learning chords in general, or chords to a particular song you want to learn. There are only so many of those, might take you about 6 months to master them all, or remember their positioning on the neck. But from then on, its all practice. i would advice listening to every type of music possible for inspiration and a challenge, even if you dont like the style. Its helped me. im not at a stage where i can play any song as soon as i hear it, even once. because i can figure out the chords by ear. Obviously that took years, but you still have years! any other hints or tips you'd like, or even if you have questions on playing, message back

OMG that's a lot of practise, you must be really good with guitars:D Ok i'll look for an electronic tuner. How much does it usually cost?? And do i need a tuner even if i'm a beginner?? I basically know nothing about guitars.

hey. sorry for the VERY delayed reply lol a tuner is probably about £8-10. and yeaah, id advise it. basically, it'll teach you how to tune the guitar. This in turn will make everything you play sound as it should. To a guitarist, there is nothing worse than playing something without tuning first. Seens it has been a couple of weeks since ive logged in on here. have you started playing? or have any other tips helped you out? and what kind of style would you be looking to play?

My sister started to be interested in learning guitar for these recent years, she bought a wooden one to practice with; she composes songs and sings, recently she wants to purchase an electronic one, I hope she won't give up and word hard on playin guitar if she is really interested in it. I think she learns it on the internet and ask people, she never had any lessons, so maybe she is really talented in it.

I have been playing guitar for three years, I guess I'm still learning. I've found a few sites that helped me a lot, you can try www.ultimate-guitar.com . I know other cool websites, if you want to check them out, let me know, but www.ultimate-guitar.com got everything that you need and also has a lot of tabs.

I learned by myself through guitar tabs I download from the internet and a program named guitar pro. It's very easy to begin with guitar tabs, there's also a lot of tutorial on youtube. I have never been in a guitar class.

well, which guitar genre would you like to spend most of your learning time with? and, which particular songs are you interested to play on? Do you wish to do lead, or rhythm while doing the second voice shouting at the back? do you wish to play pentatonic like clapton, spanish tunes like santana, or just a plain balladeer with the M7 so not so easy chords of Gates or Don Mclean? yes, 'reploid' gave a good site, ultimate guitar.... and still, you have lots of beginners to pro guitar teachers in youtube... try these out. but, right now, really, the first thing to do is choose the guitar you wish to play, be it accoustic or electric or classical, then choose one where the neck matches the size of your fingers for easly adaptation. i own a yamaha pacifica electric guitar, it has a small neck and is easy to rif with!

Frankly I didn't get most of the things you were saying. I just wish to learn guitar as a hobby and play and sing along the songs i like. I already own a guitar but never touched it.

ok...start with the chords...get a chord chart then, learn how to read the chart then, practice thru youtube and choose a particular song one at a time. hmmm...is your guitar electric? acoustic? and what songs do you want to play, ...folk, rock, country, love, ballad, alternative or, all of the above? you have to know so you will know where to start learning too. enjoy playing!

Hi, I too have a Guitar gathering dust in the corner of the spare room. I used to get it out and sit out on the deck in the evenings Of course I can,t play. I had lessons at Primary school some basics only.I would say you would be wise to ask around locally and see if any one can start you with some lessons.Just to start you off.The more you practice the better you will be. It's great to have a friend who can play the Guitar.Get out there and do it I say.
