Does she think that money is so easy to earn?

Wasting money - Many people like to waste things, they will just throw away things that still usable and new into the dustbin. This is kind of bad habit that they should get rid of.

I have noticed that my mother in-law like to waste things. One of the thing that I found out is that she will throw away the diaper used by my youngest son as soon as she likes, I mean even the diaper was just wear for an hour and it is still dry and usable but she will just throw it away after she bathed for my son. She will never reuse the diaper even though it is still new or dry. (No wonder the diaper used up so fast ). You may think that she just too hygienic? For me, what she did was wasting money. I think she really think that money is too easy to earn since she doesn't need to pay for the diapers. What can I do? I can't even tell her not to do that just because she is my in-law! Do you having such a people at home that like to waste things?

Yes. I have a brother that is very much like this. He likes to waste money on nonsense. One day he bought a bicycle for nothing. He did not even use it once. What a waste.

Many people will just spend on anything or throw anything they like as if it is free. They will only learn the lesson if one of the day they have no money to spend and they will feel the pain of wasting things easily.

Talk to your mother in-law in a loving tone. We know that they should be respected, but we have to have our side heard also. Explain to her why it is a waste for the diaper to be thrown if it isn't soiled yet. Emphasize to her that you are doing all you can to save on expenses and one of those is that way. So, you would like her help thru that. She will understand, as long as you do it in a nice manner and tone, without appearing to be confronting.

I really would like to tell her that way, but I worried that she might misunderstand what I wanted to tell her and she might get upset due to that, I will think of someway to tell her, but not me to direct tell her about not to waste the diaper.

You could always buy cloth diapers and then just wash and reuse them. That way you are not spending extra money on diapers that just get thrown away. I am not sure I would like to see anyone wasting money that I spent either.

That is an good idea, I may consider to use a cloth diapers instead. No one like to see things being wasted especially money related. To throw away things are so easy but to earn money for throw away is so hard and it hurts.

I think she is overprotective in nature. She does not want to reuse the diaper. Does she do it with most of the things? My mother in law is a complete waster too and i just do not like her callous attitude towards life. She cuts the vegetables and throws rest of them without cutting. I have seen her throwing bitter gourd, beans and baby pumpkins.Whenever she has to cook anything she will cooks loads of it and even after eating for two three times ,it will not get used and finally has to be thrown.

Hi! I think we have a very similar mother in-law that like to waste things. When she cooks, she like to cook a lot and usually that portion is consumable for more than 5 person, but there are only 3 person around at home, so most of the time, foods will be wasted and throw away. And for some ingredient that just need to put in some, but she will used up the whole bag in one time that we bought actually can be use for many time. Sometime, she really make me nuts!

Habit! This is her habit. She has been in this habit for so many years. I don't think you can change her habit in a short while. Whatever of your advice will cause a conflict or confrontation. Since she is your senior, you have to be tolerance to maintain a harmony family.

Hopefully I don't have a family member like your mother in-law. I think she waste things just because she doesn't care them much. Like you said, maybe she just think money is easy to earn, which is certainly not true. Maybe you can let her go out and earn some money herself, she will know money is not easy come.

Yes, you are right, she will just throw away things just like it is non of her business. I think it is her bad habit that hard to change, especially when she do not need to work to earn money to support the family. She can just ask for money from the children whenever she wanted some money to spend. I think that is why make her think that to get money is something easy...just ask and someone will give her money.

I think this happen to many lady who like to spend hours in the bathroom. I think if you keep showering, it waste the water but if you are just soak in the bathtub, it is still saving some water. As for the air cond. many people nowadays must have and must on the air cond when they sleep at night, and many will jut let it on till the next morning, the best way to save money is to set a timer and let it off after a few hours when the room temperature are cool enough.

We dont waste money at home at all. My boyfriend always says that its to dark in our house but we have the lights off well most of the big lights off so we dont use up the electric and save money that way. We will turn on a standing light rather then ceiling lights because it wont be wasting as much money. I dont have kids so i cant say about the diapers but i do know that my cousin would save pull ups and diapers that werent used to save money because the diapers get expensive. Food is another thing that is barely ever wasted at my house. We even try to use our left overs when we can before they go bad. Its easy and something to consume and not waste money all the time on silly things.

Your family have a very good habit where all of you know how to avoid wasting money and trying to save as much as possible. I believe this is related how a person is brought up and that related to the person attitude. People who like to waste things probably do not know how to appreciate things and they have never suffer when they have not enough money. And this happen when the person is spending others money or things that they throw away is bought by someone else. I think that happen to her because she never know how much is a diaper cost and she just think that it is just a diaper, why use it for so long, as long as it has been wore , it need to be throw away, no matter how new it is. That is her perception on the diaper I think.

I did not find such people at my home. The reason is my all family members know very well how the money is earned. That is why all members at my home is very sincere towards to money. They spend the money only useful things and it is not like just use a thing once and throw that out next time. The conclusion at the last is we should not waste money. The money is earned only by hard work. We sweat a lot to earn money. So be careful to waste the things.

I understand her throwing away the diaper after she bathe the baby, in her eyes that's being unsanitary. She's being a concerning grandmother. In your eyes you see it as her being inconsiderate of money. Maybe you could ask her to buy a few diaper packages as a way to help around the house. That way you won't feel a burden buying too many diapers for your child.

I don't mind to buy more diaper if it is being used properly and is not wasted. It is not the matter of who buy the diaper but I just can't accept the way she waste the diaper and money.

I don't think thats the case here. I mean I m sure she just being over protective of your child. Sometimes after not being with little babies for so long her mothering nature might of taken over. Something similar happen with my grandparents as well. Why not have a chat with her?

You might be correct, she might be over protective and she worried that my son will get rasher if he wore the diaper for too long. But this is not the case where the diaper is just new and clean, and my son do not have a sensitive skin where the diaper can still be use for a little bit longer time. This is not the only things that she throw away just like that where it still usable.
