What are you doing to offset rising gas, and food prices?

I live in S. Florida, so I am growing fruits, and vegatables to help with my grocery budget. I coast to every stop sign and red light to help save on gasoline. Life is quickly getting more and more expensive! I have to really pay attention to every dollar before it leaves my hand. Do any of you my lotters have other ideas on how to save money to pay for rising commodity costs?

we are in Canada so growing fruits and veggies right now is sort of out of the question but we do so in the summertime. we also stay in more (we get free movies from the library and watch them so we have nights in as a family). we also shop at thrift stores, stay away from the mall and keep our heat down (we wear sweaters!)

I am very much conscious of the rising gas price since I have to be driving every day to work, and the distance is not that short. I am thinking of using the public transport instead of driving my own car to work if the gas prices continue to rise. I know many people have changed to public transport recently for the same reason.

As soon as the weather is a little warmer a garden will go in. I have a bicycle just waiting for me to pick it up at my brother's house. I can go just about anywhere in town on a bike. I have a double basket to put on the back. The other thing we do is the fuel and oil additives my husband puts in the car. One you get at Wal Mart and then the other, for the oil and other fluids, like transmission fluid are products he also sells. If you take good care of your car it will get lots better mileage.

I'm from the Philippines. To save gas, I only bring my car to work on days that are really hard to commute by public vehicles. Usually, just Fridays. What's sad is that I just got my car a few months ago, so I'm just getting used to having a car. At first, I get by just fine, but then, gas prices start to get ridiculously expensive that all my money goes to my gas money. So I just decided to use my car just when I need it the most. I don't really have a place to grow fruits and vegetables, but even if I do, I'd probably end up not doing it, since I'm not very good at planting.

I am from the Philippines and planting vegetables in the yard has been the common thing people do to save money. I think that you are right to pay attention to every expense we deal with. I think that going to the market should be done just once in two weeks to save on gas. Some car experts also say that not filling you gas tank too much would also help. Additional weight from it would make the engine work more just to compensate. Not turning on the air conditioning is one also. And a lot of people here are resorting to scooters even to save gas and time. Being stuck in traffic will eat so much gas also. Cutting additional services can help as well. Most of the Filipinos now do not have cable subscription and to access the internet, they would go to internet shops.
