Food trip in Baguio City

My husband and I are going to Baguio this February 25 for the annual Flower Festival. Its a long overdue vacation for us, we've been planning to go to Baguio after our wedding three years ago. Aside from the colorful parade, we hope to grub in on a food trip. Do you have any suggestions on where to find the cheap but really good food in Baguio city? We highly appreciate your help so we can arrange our itinerary.

Hi! I lived in Baguio from 2003 to 2009. Food tripping is always a good thing to do in Baguio. Here are some of my favorites: 1. Good Taste Restaurant - Open 24 HOurs; Big serving and cheap prices; reminiscent of chinese restos like Ma Mon Luk; Located behind the Baguio Centermall on Magsaysay Road; Very small parking lot so I suggest don't bring your car; You can walk it from Session Road or take an Aurora Hill jeep going the Magsaysay route (there are 2 routes for Aurora Hill jeeps; the other is Bonifacio route); Must try dishes: Buttered Chicken, Beef with Ampalaya and Fried Rice. 2. 50's Diner - Open 24 hours; Reminiscent of American diners; First location is at Leonard Wood Road (going to Teacher's Camp); Newest branch along Military Cut-Off Road (from Kennon Road); Must try dishes: Bulalo, steak meals, She, Mama's Kid, Chocolate ice cream shake. 3. Volante's Pizza - Open 24 hours; along Session Road; Must try dishes: all of their pizzas, all the salads, pasta too. 4. Jack's Restaurant - Don't know the exact hours they're open; several branches: along Session Road, Mabini Road, Baguio Centermall, at La Trinidad, Benguet along the hi-way; Must try dishes: Jack's rice, Chopsuey Rice; Big servings too. 5. Tea House - Don't know the exact hours they're open; along Session Road, across Volante; Must try dishes: their "meals" and their famous dessert "Chona's Delight". 6. Wood Nymph - at SM Baguio and along Military Cut-off (near Nevada Square); Korean restaurant; Must Try: Samjypsal, Bibimbap and Jampong. 7. Hodori - at Upper Mabini St.; KOrean restaurant; Must Try: Samjypsal, Bibimbap and Jampong. 8. Le Chef at The Manor - at Camp John Hay; breakfast buffet (6:30am-10am) is always good; kinda pricey at around 550 pesos; very nice ambience though. 9. Toppings and Treats - beside McDonald's in Session Road; chef and owner is CCA trained; Turo-turo style. These are just some of the places that serve good food at very reasonable prices. There are some more little stalls littered around the city but you wouldn't have time to check them out. You have to stay longer for those. Hehehe! Before going home, take along with you the peanut butter sold at the the little store near the stalls that sell buko and gulamans, the fried or steamed Prince Bread sold at the Prince Plaza Hotel's restaurant which goes well with strawberry jam and all the other goodies sold at the market. Enjoy your stay!!!!

Oh I forgot to give a warning. Since it is Panagbenga, ALWAYS be mindful of your belongings. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people get some of their things stolen during the festivities. And be prepared to walk. Especially during the parades, you will not be able to get into the town proper on a vehicle unless it's a motorbike or a bicycle. Parking will be scarce and traffic will reach the hi-ways leading in and out of Baguio City. Be very careful and have fun!

Oh, a little correction. 50's Diner is not open 24 hours. But they do serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. My bad!

Well jonnifc here gave you a lot of choices! Anyway, astreadido! I hope you enjoy your stay in Baguio and good luck! I hope your hotel is just near Session Road, since most of the roads will sure be in traffic. Otherwise, you'll find yourself walking from down town to where you are staying. Prepare yourself during the parades since for sure there are lots and lots of people and pickpocketers who would take advantage of the event. I lived in Baguio for most of my life but I am now settled in Manila. Ok here are my suggestions for cheap foods, some already mentioned by jonni. - Jacks. There is one in Session and Abanao Road. They have big servings and lots of veggies and pancit. - Good Taste. Same as Jacks. Located at the back of Baguio Center Mall. - Tea House. Love their pancit and cakes. Along Lower Session Road and SM. - Bulalo house at Burnham Park or Slaughter house. There are also good restaurants and bars along Legarda Road. It is like the Malate of Baguio. I forgot the name of the resto beside Jollibee Legarda. I'm getting old. Anyway, you can also have a coffee at Kaffee Klatsch in Legarda. If you really like food tripping. I hope you stay in Baguio until first week of March since they will close the whole of Session Road for Session in Bloom. There are a lots of pica-pica foods available at that time. I usually enjoy this better than the parades. You can also buy different pasalubongs here. I hope you guys enjoy the trip and be safe!

Ooohhh, Slaughter House! That's for the adventurous type. Blood as dipping sauce , anyone? LOL! Hey sweet_pea, I bet you've eaten at 3H! The bulalo resto at the "bat cave" near the bus stations in Bayanihan. Otek Road, I think! That's a little freaky! LOL!

Nah! Hardly eat Bulalo in Baguio except if it is cooked by my husband. I read at some travel forums that the best bulalo are in slaughter house compound.

Flower Festival - Baguio City Panagbenga
By now you surely have just memories of your trip to Baguio City. How was it? I could not really give you any tip on food tripping in Baguio because whenever I go to Baguio I don't really care much about the food but about the flowers. So I make sure I don't miss the yearly flower festival as much as possible. Did you enjoy the festival" I believer you did! If you love flowers you will never fail enjoying the beautiful parade of flowers.

Haven't been to Baguio since '03, sorry. But jonni up there gave you a wonderful list. Try the native food, though, so you would feel the soul of Baguio...

hello astreadido! your topic makes me think of baguio once again. i have been there before, if i am not mistaken i have been there twice but i can't remember if we have gone food tripping there. if there was one thing i enjoyed the most in baguio,it is the cool atmosphere and foggy ambiance that i don't usually see and experience here in manila. well, when it comes to food, i like those strawberries on farm and the hot taho that is being sold around the city. i missed baguio and like you, i have been looking forward to food tripping there too. i hope there's someone who can give ideas on your topic. god bless with you on your trip.

Hi Astrea! We were there in Baguio August last year. There are lots of restaurants along session road. Restaurants there are the ones that we could see in Manila. If you like barbeques, grilled foods and Filipino dishes you could go to Burnham park. There are lots there that sell delicious cheap foods. Enjoy your travel.

Hi, been to Baguio last Dec. Try the Bulalo stalls near the Burnham park, perfect for the cold windy night and the OMG (Oh my gulay) to suit your veggie cravings. If you have extra budget, save it for a sumptuous dinner at RoseBowl near Maharlika. Rosebowl is a Chinese restaurant, it's been around Baguio for several years now. Have fun!
