Every nation has its own miseries but these miseries shouldn't stop the people from being proud of their race! So, I am and for ever will be a proud Filipino! There are way too many reasons to be proud of being a Filipino. We are happy despite of the troubles our country is facing today. We have a well-preserved traditions and values despite of the modernity of time. Also, our culture is incomparable. And oh, not to mention, we are good-looking people. :D Most of all, we Filipinos have values that make us distinct and standout from any other race!

I'm proud to be a Filipino.. I survived it here, didn't I? Most people don't realize just how much this country has to offer. I'ts us, the people, who need to change. Not just EXPECT change to happen. We need to "walk the talk." Nothing would happen if we just go on complaining. Right?

It's a hard world we live in, I know. And change here is totally dragging but if we just keep on complaining and expecting things to just change around us, then nothing will ever happen. But I do understand that there are many factors involved. It's just that we can't expect things to change if we do nothing about it.

I'm a proud Filipino though I find it hard to sleep at night just because of my trauma-someone stole my camera and my laptop inside my room, though I have to be with somebody wherever I go because I can't find any safe place, and though I feel like it's already impossible to find a good Samaritan in the place.
Philippines is a wonderful place, but I think not all people were aware of it because they dwell much on the negative side of it.

Despite the negative issues about our country, its inefficient governance (sorry P-noyans), the rampant crimes here and there, the seemingly no-solutions to poverty crisis , and the hopeless case of some of our fellowmen who work as OFW, YES, I am still proud of being a Filipino.
Why, because we have kababayans who are dragging their butts to give honor and pride to our country. There is Manny Pacquiao, the now hype of the crowd AZKALS, there is also numerous artists that are well known in the entertainment industry like Charice, There is also Erick Spoelstra who is an NBA coach. And a lot more of filipino achievers. They are good enough reasons why we should be proud of ourselves.
Also, Filipinos are commented for being intelligent and diligent workers by their foreign national employers. We also have talented kids that are slowly making names all over the world. And for the masa, we have Efren Penaflorida who was hailed as CNN hero. Now, isn't it great enough to be of the same race with these people?

I dont think going after corrupt people can be called inefficient governance.
The time for being "efficient" by ignoring these corruptions in exchange for peaceful convenience among government officials, feeding us lies year afer year about millions and billions of pesos used for these and that program, only to find out later the money went to their own pockets - need to stop.
I would rather suffer the inconvenince of going after these wreckers of our country than playing deaf and blind and imagine that Manny Villar kind of lies will make this country progressive.

Eurekafemme - yes thank God for them. They are truly a few of those to be proud of. I guess the government really plays a big part on this issue as indeed good governance is far fetched here in our country. On the other hand, like those few others, we should also try to raise our flags up high by being the best in all that we do. Especially when showing competitiveness in our work, sports, etc.
Greenpeas - agree w/ you too. I just hope that the present government will truly live up to its promise that they are to put a stop w/ corruption.

Hello staria! Honestly I have seen already your discussion many times but I refused to comment as I dont want to write anything that would surely hurt my fellow men here in Mylot or I would clearly despise my nationality. But today I have seen again your discussion on my homepage and the next thing I knew I was already typing my response for you.. I am not a nationalistic person, Im not the kind that would go out of the streets and join demonstrations against our Govt, nevertheless, Im not blinded by what was and is really happening in our country. Reason to be partly NO, Im not proud to be a Filipino. You know I have watched the news last night about those filipinos captured in Libya and those who were able to escaped and cross borders. I dont have family there, if not inhumane to say this Im feeling lucky not to have any family member there but seeing those anguish of their families here in the Philippines are enough for me to have an absolute empathy on my fellowmen in Libya. Other nationalities are being rescued already by their respective Govts but for Filipinos when will it be? Well Im sure its not an easy task for our Govt to do repatriation as it would need funds but if only those corrupted funds of Philippines are being used rightly this could possibly not happening. Well this is only my personal perception, maybe things are quite different as how I understood it.
But as I wrote Im just partly not proud but on the other side there are still things that I should be proud being raised in a Filipino culture. And that I think is enough already for me to let my children and my children's children live and be raised here in the Philippines.

First, thank you for taking my opinion as a best response. Now I knew I made the right decision of sharing my views here in your discussion.
Well every country has its positive and negative. Its not a guarantee if we were born in a rich country we will have a perfect life. There will always something we will find inappropriate. But yes maybe life will be less difficult.

Hi, we are entitled to our own opinions and I respect yours. There are a lot of times to wherein I really wished that I was born in a different country, so that I wouldnt have to deal w/ the problems of this country. But do I really have a choice? I don't have enough resources and after all my parents/siblings are here. So I thought I just have to deal w/ it. After all, like what you've said there's still something to be proud of like the Filipino values that are taught to us by our elders. So I just open my mind to the possibilities that maybe one day, our country will be able to uplift its reputation again and living in here would not be as bad as it seems to be. Thank you for sharing your opinion.

Yes, I am proud for what I am. Just like Dr. Jose Rizal said,"Ang taong di marunong mag mahal ng sariling wika, ay mas masahol pa sa masangsang na isda."
:) Be proud for what you are.

@visavis, if we use Pilipino here, then the discussion would just get deleted because it's against the rules, how then can we express how much we love our country here at Mylot, , Cheers Kabayan!

There's nothing I can do but to still stand being a Filipino. Whatever is happening to our country right now, it does not represent the whole country, just like what President Noynoy said those were isolated cases. And I know that many Filipinos are still proud of being a Pinoy. And it also happen that another Filipino stand in front of the world winning his boxing title just minutes ago. Congratulations, Nonito Donaire!

Yes, no matter what happens, I am and will always be proud to be a Filipino. We have a lot of characteristics that is not found elsewhere such as hospitable to everyone (especially foreigners), bayanihan (or doing things hand-in-hand together) and pagtanaw ng utang na loob (debt of gratitude). We should not get pessimitic for a lot of bad things happening in our country, Filipinos are always looking for hope and moving forward.
We have to take pride a lot of Filipinos, not only in sports, but countless young students who won left and right in global competitions.

Correct, these Filipino values are what I admire most, and of course how Filipinos value their family. In other countries, they dont even respect the elderlies and let them live in a foster home or home for the aged. While here, as long as we can keep everyone intact and close, we will do it. Hooray for the achievements of other Filipinos too

yes of course i still am a proud filipino!:) yes it's true that there are things happening in our country that somehow changed the image of the philippines and to filipinos as well. but, one thing is for sure, the fault of one person or two doesn't mean the fault of the entire country. there's still many things to be proud of as a filipino.

Though, sad reality, other countries or races can be stereotyped that Filipinos arent really good people because of a certain number of Pinoys who give this country a bad name, but we can still continue to do things that would up our morale as a nation and as citizens of this country

Of course I am! I just love living in the Philippines, no matter what they say about it. I like exploring our country. The Philippines is such a beautiful place with so many islands to explore. People are warm and friendly and can still smile amidst poverty.

yeah, I think there is still hope in our country, It should start within ourselves, like being optimistic, stop saying bad things to our country especially to our people.
Our nation is so beautiful, so we should utilize it wisely. If we have friends abroad, we don't we invite them and say goods things about our country?

Yes, we should start analyzing things more and not just bombard the govt w/ rants not knowing the real root of the issue. I observed that sometimes there are those who were just going w/ the flow and that every little move of the president is being repulsed.

In the midst of all those bad things happening around us, i can still proudly say i am a Filipino.
A lot of honors were brought home by our fellow Flipinos ; Manny Pacquiao, Heidi Mendoza and Azkals among others that those bad things cannot overshadow.
Like in a basket, there are bad apples among the bad apples. But i still think, good Filipinos abound more than bad Filipinos.

Of course, I am very proud to be a Filipino, staria. I also take pride with what our nation can offer to all Filipinos and non-Filipinos as well. The country is not only rich in natural resources, it has a rich culture, its people are equally smart, intelligent, talented (in various areas)and good looking who can compete with the rest of the world. We stagnate and failed in a lot of things (on the downside)because of the bad and corrupt individuals who think only of themselves, their families and friends at the expense of the large populace. I am not ashamed to let the whole world know I am a Filipino. Good day.

With all decisiveness, YES! After all these are just grease and stains on a broad and wide white piece of paper. Better yet look at the lighter side of it all rather than just playing a "blame game." After all, these are just eye-sores that tend to place a diversion on our day-t-day happenings because these are all politics-related aspects. Why not peep in to sports, science, literature, fashion, how the country is uplifted and known abroad through OFWs, among some. Actually, my dad's a foreigner and my mom's a Filipina yet I'm proud to shout even up to the end of the world that I am a FILIPINO! Its the only country among 196 nations over the globe that let me say this: THE CHOSEN AND REFINED NATION! In Filipino, "PILI na nga, PINO pa...saan ka pa PILIPINO?!" I was born a Filipino and will die a Filipino! Thank God I am a Filipino!!!
