Do you have your own small garden?

On the internet, there are fictitious gardens for you to grow vegetables or fruit. But around my father's home,I have a true one. More than 4 years ago,I got nearly 3 acres of cane fields from my pa.Then I planted over 300 young orange trees in them.So I have a small orange garden of my own. Managing the garden really takes me quite some time. After work or at the weekend,if I don't have to go out,I always labour in my garden.I have to weed, fertilise, spray insecticide, choose sprays etc.Sometimes I feel rather tired, but I never complain about that. Here while I'm labouring,I can forget all the trouble from the work, avoid playing mah-jongg for gambling, find excuse to refuse overdrinking, reduce the time on line to loosen my body and so on.Till November of this year,I can have my first harvest. I love labouring,I love my own small orange garden.

That has to be awesome to have your own orange garden! And it's really cool how it has helped you bring more positives into your life and get rid of some of the negatives! That is so good. Just wait until you start eating (and selling) some of those oranges!Too bad you cannot ship us some!

I sprayed insecticide for the trees this morning,so my comment is late.Ok,if the customs let go,I'm sure I'll post you some! But it's said all the oranges here are mostly exported to the Southeast Asia.

oldsix, That sounds like a lovely garden. I think we had a small garden in our yard when I was growing up, but we didn't have much luck with anything but potatoes. Other than that, we didn't have enough fertilizer or something because nothing else grew. I hope you get lots of oranges. I love oranges!

You can grow many if the conditions do not permit.Yes,this year I can harvest some, perhaps nearly 2500kg if I'm lucky enough.Have fun!

That is quite a lot! It sounds like you will have a good year if you can get that much out of your little plot! Good luck with that!

This kind of orange trees has a big output,so it's widely planted in my county, many of the planters become rich. These little oranges are always exported to the Southeast Asia,or carried to the other provinces of my country.

You have an orange grove. Congratulations! You are making wise choices. I love oranges but cannot grow them in our yard, as it gets too cold most winters. We do have a small plot where we grow a few vegetables. I planted 77 onion sets today and will set out tomato and bell pepper plants as soon as danger of frost has passed.

We learn by doing. Also, you can talk to other orange growers and learn by their experiences. A wealth of information can be obtained from books and on the internet, You'll be as good orange grove manager as you want to be.

That's great you have a big area to garden. I have a little garden in our back yard and we have lettuce and potatoes growing. We just cut down our old orange tree (so sad) to make more room for other vegetables. Gardening always make me feel happy and proud.

Actually, we didn't really tend that tree at all... it was there from when I was born and it just kept making oranges on it's own. We just trimmed it once in it's life time.

That is a lot more than what I would call a garden, My friend. I have a backyard and I´m happy to plant some tomatoes, zuchinni and lettuce among my flowers. I imagine that what you have is a lot of work and I hope your harvest is bountiful

Wow how nice of you to have an orange garden. How i wish could have one too, but i don't have the land and patience though, to tend it. But my father has a small vegetable garden at our backyard. It has radish, tomatoes, eggplants, squash and bitter gourd. I love visiting them because i get to harvest some and take it with me back to our house in the city.

Our father would be so happy if we get to harvest some of his vegetables! He has the garden for everyone to partake, that's why. It's his hobby to plant them and he takes pride when they become plentiful and ready to be harvested.

My father is great. He plants paddy-rice and sugar canes all the time though he's 72 years old now,and today he's still harvesting canes together with the helpers. He's proud of giving products to his children. So ever since I've worked more than 20 years ago,I never had to buy even a grain of rice.

Gardening is one of my hobbies, in fact I have collection of orchids, roses, violets and chrysanthemum. I also planted a favorite tree, Moringa oleifera. Aside from the flowers, I have a pandan plant and hibiscus plants. My plants are planted on pots because I got a very little space.

Hi, Oldsix, this is an amazing story! I was living in a house years ago and I wanted to take care of the garden. But I had to take care of my baby first and there was little time left. But it's fine when you plant something and you watch it grow. Now I bought a little cypress and I keep it in my living room. In the spring I'll move it out.

Yes,it's very fine labouring in my garden, that way I can forget all the things that I don't like.Seeing the trees are growing tall and big year by year,I feel so happy,I know what I did is right.

Wow, what a lot of work you have, especially when doing all of this on your own. It must be quite relaxing doing this, even though you are working hard. It also saves you from being out elsewhere spending money. I only have a backyard, no garden at all. What you have sounds so amazing, like a place you could just chill out and relax in. Take in the air, pick some fruit. It truly does sound wonderful and it is great that you have this and that you are able to plant some fruit and vegetables.

Sometimes it's not relaxing at all, expecially in summer. It's so hot but I have to finish some work in time. But as long as the trees bear fruits,my work will be less, then I can really feel relaxed.Have fun!

In my mother town house they has a lot given by their parents. I never experience to have my own lot and plant on it. As I remember when I was only in grade school my mom wants us to eat organic vegetables and hers around our house. But I didn't have any chance to make it on my own. Started thinking to learn how to plant herbs. What we only have now is herbs, veggies, a bit of flowers and bonsai. Good day! God bless!

So that I realize that plants is one of the best thing in life that we have to take good care. Its a good source of relaxation and hobby. You'll have a big garden some day.But I don't think you are good at raising because you have been studying at school all the time.If so,you'd better not plant too many, you can't bite off more than yoou can chew, right?Have fun!

Yes, I have a small garden, but nothing like the 3 acres you have. Ours is about 1/8th of an acre, but it is pleasant to work in. When I was a kid though I grew up on a small holding of around 38 acres and we took one of the fields of 2 acres and made a large lawn with flowers and shrubs. My brother-in-law also has a similar farm where he has a large garden, but he only grow plants and flowers and stopped growing veggies quite some time ago. You garden sound great and it is a good healthy activitity. _Derek

I don't like wasting time to stroll around,so I asked my father for some fields and planted some orange trees. But before harvesting,I still have to give quite a little work. And you can do the same thing that you did when you were young if conditions permit.Have a nice day!

How lucky for you to have a real farm unlike most of those online, doing farming virtually. I love growing plants but what I got is some potted plants only in a small vacant part in our front yard. I have A malunggay tree, calamansi, a native pepper plant (sili Labuyo)and a new additon of Turmeric (Luyang Dilaw)Like you I enjoy working on them and I have harvested twice of my calamansi and several times of Malunggay fruits! For my home use only and some for my friends and neighbors!

I envy you very much.the labour of seeding, planting and harvesting in your garden is beneficial to your physical and mental health.I live in a apartment block moreover second floor.I only grow my flowers in the balcony. In case neighbors are discontented with the smell of fertilizer ,I seldom apply fertilizer to flowers.

You are right,so I love labouring instead of fooling about.According to your conditions, you shouldn't fertilize the flowers you grow, anytime we have to care about the feelings from our neighbours.

The life we are living is so expensive and it needs some one to spend carefully, if you do have a house that has got a space whereby you can develop a garden please use it. I do have a vetetable garden, as a result of that garden I do not buy every vegetable. In that garden we grow spinach, cabbages, cauliflower, green peas and beans, carrot and etc. We need to use our own resource to feed ourselves rather than buy everything. If I want to do some of the salads I just go to that vegetable garden where I pick what is needed at that particular time and at least I am saving even if its not too much and those vegetables are fresh. In our community sometimes you do give away other veggies to those who do not have any thing to eat at all, so that the kids can go to bed not empty stomach, so I am asking other MYLOT friends and relatives who can grow veggies to do the same so that they can help others who could not.Time is not much to do it
