I can’t believe some people’s idea of ‘winding down from work’. I may have mentioned in a previous discussion that I work in a union shop. People on the floor are given their list of tasks to do per day. I was talking to a couple of guys at noon today and we were joking around, when the subject of things that they still have to do before the weekend. Tomorrow is an off-day for us, and they frankly said that they are already winding down for the weekend. And true enough, not much was done for the rest of the day. I also wind down at the end of the week, but it is usually 20 minutes before quitting time. And it is mostly making sure all my stuff is in place for the weekend so that I don’t come into a messy desk at the start of the following week. Do you have guys like these at your work place? Or like me? Or do you even wind down at work? Are you the type that winds down only when you get home?

At my work I'm either busy or it is sooooo slow. So I am either running around getting my work done or I am trying to stay busy. I have no need to wind down. As soon as it is time to go home , I am ready , I have no need to wind down.

You are lucky. when I have a slow day I can't get online. I have to find something to do.

I think my work is the same. If there are problems, or a delivery that needs to be done, and requires a buy off from me, I would be running around making sure that everything is done as required. And there are days that are soooo slow too. Those days I get a lot done here on myLot!

I think I believe you dawn! You mentioned in past discussions that you work in some remote office. Could that be the reason that you could wind down too even just at the start of the day? I would love a job like that!

Seriously it just depends on the day, but because I don't have to deal with people directly, pretty much only on the phone, it can be pretty stress free most days.

When I think of winding down, I think of coming home and relaxing in front of the TV or computer or something.. I do not think of winding down while at work! In my current line of work there is no winding down. We have a lot of stuff to do before we can leave, we have to make sure the store is spotless for the next morning. I think ensuring your work area is organized is vital to the work environment.. but that is all part of the job, it's not like you're relaxing at work just waiting to go home!

I too use the TV way too often as a tool for winding down. Often I could stare at it mindlessly for hours! And of course there is myLot. Which could be 'hitting-two-birds...'. I could relax, and at the same time earn a little money. Thanks.

It depends on my work load. This last week, for example, I spent the last half hour of Friday looking for something to waste time with because the work I really needed to do was going to last well past the end of the day and my boss has been really sticky lately about me not getting any extra time (money :(). So I basically quit "working" at 4:30 and just pretended to look busy until I could close out the register and clock out.

Sometimes being 'sticky' with procedures and instructions could work both ways. While your boss was focused on not giving you extra time, he actually lost some time because you 'quit' early. Sounds about fair: you just dish out, what you've been served. Thanks.

When I was working outside the house, I was the kind of person that always wanted to accomplish more than I had the day before. This meant that I never took the time during my work day to wind down. However, as soon as I got home from work, I would definitely deprogram myself from the mode of being at work. The most important thing for me to wind down from the work week was always going out and getting something for dinner.

I think that's the problem with workaholics! We kept trying to accomplish more. And we keep demanding more and more from ourselves. The great thing for you was that you knew when to switch all off. And that you equate something like getting food for dinner as a form of winding down. Thanks.

When I worked in a office winding down for the weekend was highly impossible as I was expected to be available 24/7, ugghh, it was the pits. Now that I pretty much doing independent contracting I don't think I wind down, or contemplate winding down because where and when there is work I am there.

That was actually my first thought when they started handing us cellphones from work. That we'd have to be available 24/7. And I was like that for a little while. Until later on when I discovered voice mail. Which actually worked. Because they can't really compell you to come to work if they can only leave you a message. And of course, when I get the message it would have been too late.

That's one of the things about myLot too. That it could be a form of winding down, from a busy day at work, and at the same time earn a little bit of cash. It's great!

I guess, for us here at our office winding down from work is usually 5 minutes before dismissal on Fridays, because Saturday will still be half day .

Half-day Saturdays?! That's too bad to hear. My very first job offer required me to work half-day Saturdays too. It took me a while to turn it down because it was the first. I'm sure by now you are so used to it. I just hope that you get extra pay for that. Thanks for dropping by.

I usually don't wind down. I work alone without a boss so I have little stress. I like my job; it's really not that hard.

Hello Redeye95. That would be an ideal job indeed! Alone and without too much stress. That'll make you enjoy working life even more. Thanks and welcome to myLot!
