One is one of the best books i have ever read, and love almost all his books. every time i read it, i see one more message in the line. one more angle, one more information, one more revelation... what do you say ?

I have read 3 of richard bachs books . What i feel is that these books take you on a fantacy ride.Soon after finishing reading these books ,one is left with a good feeling, often a feeling of elation. However, these books fail to make any point(which should be the objective of any work of fiction). For e.g the if one tris to sum up the book Jonnathan Livington seagull, one would come up with something like 'Never give up, aim for the sky' . Literature is already plagued with such cliches. Also, i cant correctly recall the stories of these books as nothing concrete was said in them. This is how i feel, do give your inputs regarding this post.

Fantasy ride - yep, most books do it. Science and Management books will have a point (demonstrable) to make, not so with fiction. What i infer from his writings is - there is an appeal to the inner self for its conscious expansion and integration of everything, at the same time without losing the reality of earning my bread. You are right - there is a good feeling - plus - some good thoughts, interesting angles from which i haven't looked / sought before... i can go on. It is about good living - not just healthy, wealthy and happy - but also good living. what says you ? (Thank you for your 'open' reply and wish you a happy new year too .. )

Fictions too can make points( most fictions do not). For e.g Books written by Ayn Rand , Victor Hugo. These authors have a philosophy which gets manifested through theme, plot and actions of the the protagonists. In my opinion books should lead to thought processes(which intrun lead to gaining of knowledge) and not just elicit feelings.

The book One does have a point, infact many. One that i can recall now is the part where he gets the golden book. Richard bach has explained very well how a religion is born and how ultimately it leads to war.
the point i got through the book 'A bridge across forever' is : All life is learning.
So Its not just fantasy writing, but does put across some points , that too very effectively. I must admit though that the idea behind Jonnathan livingstone is very simplistic.

I loved "One" too! It seems to work it's way into at least one big conversation of mine each and every week. I read it several years ago, so that's quite a feat!
For me, the overall message was one of hope and unlimited possibilities. This consoles me sometimes when I think I've missed an opportunity. I figure, well, someone somewhere got to experience that or maybe I'll get it on the next time around. But even on a great day, it leaves me hope that there's still an infinite combination of possibilities out there and I just have to tap into any one.
Thanks for posting this discussion!
