I am so very sad today, My daughter's laptop stolen from her hostel room. Purchased just three months back through premature withdrawal of F.D.s saved for her future at the cost of Rs.32,000.00 as it is so much important for her studies. She is doing third year in I.T. Engineering. There was so much of data stored in that laptop, the efforts of her day night working on her project plus other data including my photography done to develop my new blog. I will not be able to arrange that type of money to buy her a new laptop. This act which is done between 1.30 and 8.30 A.M. could not be done by outsiders alone, Some students that too girl students got to be involved
I am sad thinking about this future generation who indulge in this type of practices at this age what they are going to do when they grow up and take up the jobs in responsible positions. God save them.

I am sorry to hear that. Yeah, gadgets are really important for us, not only for study but also for working. I also have same experience with your daughter, but gadget that stolen from me is my cellular phone. It's really make me so sad. There are many contact numbers, message, and another important things in that phone and they lose so easy. I hope anybody who stolen my phone will realize about their bad act and becoming good person. I hope the student in your daughter's school will too.

That really is sad. I know what it is like to have something stolen from me. You feel all weird and violated. The stuff that was stolen from me was never recovered by the local police. So I had to save up a whole lot of my own money to replace the items that were stolen. I hope the person that stole your item will have a change of heart and return the item to you.

Things like this happen in a hostel very often. Does not matter if it is a girl's alone hostel or boys. Thieves are there everywhere irrespective of the gender. When I was put in hostel for about a year in school, I was shocked to find that even sweets and eatables were stolen apart from cups, plates, jewellery, money, clothes, footwear etc. I guess the only ones which were not stolen were the girls ourselves! I lost even prizes which were won by me with my name on and even my certificates for participating in competitions. Don't know what girls of age 10 or 11 would do with them.
It would be better if you raise the issue with the college authorities and give a police complaint. If similar cases were there in the hostel, the police or the college management would surely take action.

There are similar cases of theft in boys hostel also. It is a Govt. college and the authorities are lethargic as in any other Govt. Department. Police already came to the college and made some inquiries. The college authorities have to first of all put the locks to the doors in order.

I commiserate with the loss of your daughter's laptop.
Had this happened to us, i would be so enraged that i will vow to know who stole it. Have you taken measures to know who the thief is? I just wish the culprit be caught and made to return it. Or may the thief be imprisoned for having done that.

very sad to hear that...its shame on the part of the girls in hostels doing this...as all of them must be knowing the hardships their parents have to undergo to give them higher education...and then stealing the thing which contains such valuable data is again the shameful thing....

Hello Mr. Divkar,
Really extremely sorry to know that your daughter's laptop was stolen from her hostel. Actually hostel is not the best place to safely keep expensive belongings. I was an Engineering students too, but that was about 12 years ago and we didn't have laptops. But one of my very expensive engineering books was stolen at the hostel. Again extremely sorry to know that your daughter and you have lost so much important data. I can feel your pain and would have been really devastated by such a loss. I pray to God that somehow things work out for you and your daughter manages to get it back.

She could have been a little careful as she lives in a hostel.I had one such friend who used to steal cell phones and other costly stuff.I was shocked when he confessed about his obsession such a mean thing to do --- seems he used to encash them in the nearby black market .Never felt like talking to him neither would i in the future.
Why dont you carry out some routine checks in the hostel with the help of warden...as you doubt that some insiders are involved in this.

Hey first of all my regrets for you that your daughter's lap is stolen...the same thing also happened to my friend. When we were having a bit of supper in our college canteen and when went for a hand wash and came back it was stolen.Something must be be done to stop these things. As a mobile phone when stolen can be identifies using IMEI Number something of these must be used to protect the stealing oflaptops.

There is what is called as mac number. The sets can be indentified with this number if it gets connected to internet. Today I was in touch with the dealer he told me that the company can give that mac number only to the police investigate the case. Police have already taken the details. Let us see. Thanks anyway for the consern.

I can relate what you feel my friend because I have experienced being stolen something before. Sad to say that the culprit was our helper. It really means that we must not give our full trust to anybody.
