High Teck for Tots. What's next?

Last night on the news, they showed an article that kind of floored me. It appears that some firm has developed apps for tots aged 4, to master on an iPad, or similar type of gadget. What ever happened to building blocks etc., and the use of good old imagination? Aren't they taking this a little too far, or am I just an old duffer? What's your take on this? cdrxo

Thanks for that...however, as long as the building blocks don't come in digital, then I have no problem with it. Yes, kids like to pretend and act out what their parents may be into or do...and yes...kids are smarter these days. But is that due to education? Or is it perhaps due to big business pear pressure marketing schemes, to keep that old money wheel a-moving? Mini Bricks, Play Dough, Coloring Books, Puzzles, and Flash Cards, still have their place in my book. Oh and yeah, BOOKS! Reading by turning REAL paper pages, never did me any harm. cdrxo

I am very glad, fortunate and very happy that i am not born in this present age.I have had a perfect childhood where i thoroughly enjoyed being and doing what a child normally does or is supposed to do ,that is play and enjoy a carefree life leaving all the responsibilities to my parents.Yes, in the good old days 50 years and more ago there were no computers,no taperecorders and only the old valve radios for entertainment and of course, no TV.So we had plenty of time to play and plenty of time to study. The air and atmosphere was clean and fresh and most of our time was spent outdoors.Nowadays children at a very young age are exposed to all the gadgetry which has made them subservient to them.Ask any child today to add or subtract and multiply some numbers and what will they do, they will reach out for the calculator, which thankfully did not exist during my childhood. If you are an old duff, then i am also an old duff, and i certainly don`t mind being one, because i really enjoyed being a child during my childhood days and not the geek that one is supposed to become these days.Say Amen to that commander sahib.

Whoa ipad's for tots. I am with you what next, real cell phones for toddlers. Seems a bit too extreme for a toddler really. As I can understand that it is quite an impressive gadget and perhaps there will be some learning lessons on there for their imagination. Wow and and I thought air jordans, lol at the time were a bit too much for toddlers. The world is continuing to evolve and or marketing strategies are sky rocketing to appeal for more sales.

Just wondering, will they invent disposable iPads as well? Some that can be sold for less than 5$, so parents can replace them as soon as they're broken? I'm watching the kids around me - I don't have any of my own, but I'm constantly surrounded by children, for one reason or another - and indeed they are all fascinated by buttons. Phones, remote controls, mice, keyboards - anything goes - it makes me wonder how children were playing before buttons came into fashion. The touch screen gadgets don't seem to interest them too much

Disposable. Hahaha...I like that. Before knobs and buttons, kids used their imagination...something that seems to be going by the way-side. cdrxo

It will be fun to watch them using ipads and banging them lol, but it will be very helpful in developing their mindset on using technology

Just as long as it's their own iPad they're banging on, and not mommy's or daddy's. But I have to disagree. I can't see HOW these devices will be helpful in developing their mindset. If anything, what they're NOT learning, is how to develop their mindset by FIRST computing the answers to simple lessons, using their own brains. True...thinking does slow one down. But, but, shouldn't we get them to learn how to think and play for themselves first, before using technological devices? I think so. cdrxo
