Even though Messi has been selected as the best football player for 2 years, but on facebook is he not the most popular football player.
Ronaldo has just got 20 million fans on Facebook, while Messi "only" got 3,2 million fans.
Ronaldo does also beat the American president, who has 18,3 million fans.
Do you really think more people does like Ronaldo?
Please start your respond with a vote, so we can see, who is the most popular here on mylot:
I vote for Ronaldo.

I don't think it really matters going by a facebook fan page it is a huge number more than Ronaldo but I do believe Ronaldo probably has a bigger worldwide reputation not as big as the fan pages margin though. I myself prefer Lionel Messi and that's from a Manchester United fan I've never liked Ronaldo despite his quality.

Couldn't agree more with you brother...I believe Ronaldo is not entirely liked by so-called "football fans", but instead liked by his huge fan base made up mostly of girls due to his good looks...It is unfair to say that he is better than Messi although he beats Messi on the number of Facebook fans...No offense, but football is all about quality, and if it is a quality-based evaluation Messi won hands down over Ronaldo...

I also think, that Ronaldo has more fans world wide, because he is also a model and he has a nice appearance.
I just thought it would be funny to compare Ronaldo and Messi through Facebook.
Well, I like Ronaldo the most. I think it's okay, that you don't like Ronaldo, but that you respect it and don't doubt his quality.
When he was in United, didn't you like him there too?

I am not a great fan of either of them, but if I have to select, I pick Messi. For me, both players are very egoistic, and we have seen a demonstration of Messi's against Arsenal, or at World Cup against Germany. Ronaldo is the same, both of them don't pass the ball when they are in the penalty box or near it. They score a lot, and they have many assists, but they pass mostly when they are far away from the goal.
Of course, they are both quick and skillful players, but when they put themselves in front of the team's performance, then in my eyes their value is very low. The same applies to Robben as well, but there it seems that Muller and Schweinsteiger had a dispute with him and since then he passes the ball.
So if I had to vote between all of the football players, I would vote for Schweinsteiger and Xavi, and not for these egoistic players, who are more talented than Xavi and Schweinsteiger, but they want the spotlight for themselves, not for the team.

Just imagine how would you fill as a striker, who always runs in empty space to receive the ball and you would get the ball rarely. How would it be? I think you have seen the scene between Muller and Robben, when Muller told Robben that he is egoistic and plays only for himself. Robben couldn't accept that and wanted to hit Muller. Then Schweinsteiger told Robben the same. I tell you, it is frustrating to play with those type of egoistic players. Maybe this works with weaker teams, but when the opposite defense is good, then your team will loose. Just look at the CHL final from last year, where Robben lost many balls, just because he wanted to do everything by his own. Or Messi against Germany at World Cup, where he wanted to dribble everybody and didn't pass the ball.

Well, I see your point.
Last year I played a match with my team against a team. I scored after 30 seconds, and we won 9-1, and we were happy, but as you mention I got this bad feeling, because the other striker was very selfish. He scored 6 goals in the game. It was very frustrating and annoying.

I can only agree with you, that both of them are very egoistic, but on the other hand it works. Ronaldo and Messi scores a lot of goals, because they are egoistics.
But as you also mention, then I think players like Schweinsteiger, Xavi, Fabregas and Alonso is important players, because they link the defence and attack together for the team.

I wouldn't really consider the Facebook fan count too seriously. But I think the appeal of Ronaldo in female segments is much higher than Messi and that contributes pretty highly to his hit count. So it is possible that he might have a bigger fan base due to this aspect.
Cheers!

Yes of course, popularity doesn't mean anything. What means something is the skills on the pitch.
I's difficult to say who is the best of these. Ronaldo has played in different league, so that's why I think he is the best. Messi has only played in La Liga, and I would love to see him in a Premier League club.

I vote for Messi;Ronaldo may be more popular on facebook, but right now Messi is the better footballer simply because he's the best in the world, but things could change this year,it also depends on which of them wins trophies this year.I also think Ronaldo has more fans of facebook than Messi not for having superior skills, but because of his physical aspects which attracts many girls, and I'm sure many of them are not interested in comparing the evolutions of these two fabulous players, they just dream of Ronaldo.

Well my reason for saying Ronaldo is better than Messi is because he has played in Premier League and prooved that he also could score there, which means, that he club doesn't depend on how good he is. Messi has only played in Barcelona, which means he has not tried the powers in Premier League. Xavi and Iniesta make it very easy for Messi in the front.

Wel,I agree with you on this matter;I hope that one day Messi will also play in Premier League and then we might draw the final conclusion, after we see him playing in the best league in the world.

I will vote for Messi just because he is more of a better team player and a person.
Ronaldo is more exposed to media and that explains his popularity on social networking sites. But if you check the stats on football forums, it is Messi who leads the pack.
No doubt, Ronaldo is a very good player, but somewhere I feel having Messi in a team is better than having Ronaldo.
Ronaldo is flashy but Messi is classy.

Based on my perception as a normal fan, I find RONALDO more famous since he was with MANU for quite some time. We have to admit it terms of "marketability" and brand name MANU is a more popular club. 2-3 years back MANU and RONALDO goes hand in hand so I guess that is the reason.
But I still love MESSI. Messi for me is the better player and better person.
