Decoding CAPTCHAs

I've been doing this job in one of my data entry site. I'm just wondering why we should have to decode those captchas. I noticed a lot of employers want to hire just to do this. Why is that? Not that I'm complaining but I just want to know.. Thanks.

It is used for preventing bots from creating automatic accounts and in order to reduce spamming I think
