Hi Viru1981
Here are names of eight herbs that are very beneficial for the health of your hair:
1.Reetha(Sapindus Trifoliatus) : They are known as excellent hair tonic and are popular ingredients in Ayurvedic shampoos and cleansers. They are traditionally used for removing lice from the scalp as they have gentle insecticidal properties. They help in preventing dandruff naturally and keep the hair soft and strong.
2.Amla (Indian gooseberry, Emblica officinalis): Amla is an important dietary source of Vitamin C, minerals and amino acids. Amla is a proven hair tonic and conditioner, and is used for enriching hair growth and hair pigmentation. Amla is also known for strengthening the roots of hair, and maintaining color as well as luster. It is also known to prevent scalp infection and controls premature graying of hair.
3.Kumari (Aloe vera): The gel of Aloe vera is known to retard excessive hair loss by renewing the follicular cycle and by stimulating the scalp to activate fresh growth of hair. Its anti-microbial property also helps in getting rid of dandruff and preventing any infection of the scalp.
4.Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum): Fenugreek has an unique mix of flavanoids and alkaloids which help in maintaining healthy-looking hair and a well-nourished scalp. The flavanoids and the alkaloid present in fenugreek seeds are responsible for increased blood circulation to scalp, thus providing increased supply of vital nutrients to the hair follicles, resulting in enhanced hair growth. Fenugreek seeds are also useful in cleansing the scalp of dandruff.
5.Bhringraj(Eclipta Alba) : Bhringaraj is one of the best known herbs in Ayurveda to prevent hair loss and premature graying of hair. A mixture of Bhringaraja and mineral oil when applied to the scalp keeps the hair dark and lustrous and promotes hair growth.
6.Shikakai (Acacia Concinna): It is an excellent cleanser and natural conditioner for hair. According to Ayurveda, it is known to strengthen hair roots, hair growth and also treat dandruff.
7.Neem (Azadirachta Indica): Becuase of its potent anti-microbial property, Neem is used for treating dandruff and for easing an itching scalp. If used regularly, it strengthens thin hair and softens thick hair.
8. Henna (Lawsonia Inermis): Henna is a potent natural hair conditioner. It helps in healing the damaged hair shaft by repairing and sealing the cuticle, and thus protecting hair against breakage and loss of shine. Henna is one of the excellent herbs known for maintenance of healthy hair. Henna also prevents hair loss, strenghtens hair, controls dandruff and promotes healthy and oil-free scalp.

A friend of mine has fine hair. She has been complaining about it, so this info will be useful to her. Can you use each item on its own or do you have to look at the label of the shampoo?

Hi
One can certainly use each item individually depending upon your complaints. But the best thing would be to boil all these herbs in olive oil, castor oil or coconut oil, on low healt for atleast half an hour, cool it and strain it. The oil can be massaged on your scalp and washed off.

Curry Leaves can help you out. Use them in our daily cooking. Also grind curry leaves to a fine paste. Dry them out. There should be no moisture in it. (You can make small cakes and then dry them out). Add one or half of the cake to pure coconut oil. Boil the oil in a deep pan. When the oil starts boiling remove from flame. Cool it and drain it. Store the oil in air tight container and use it regularly.

hi viru,
I have red somewhere that aloevera is great for hair and scalp and it somewhat makes your hair thicker. I also think coconut oil or palm oil are great hair conditioners.
