Just this once, please, because it might not ever happen again... Well, Nonito "the Filipino Flash" Donaire, grabbed the Bantamweight title from Mexican champ Fernando Montiel via TKO on the second round... and I can't help but think and be proud that our boys are reigning the boxing ring in this time and age. Manny Pacquiao, is no doubt, the pound for pound king... If there is one thing that we need to boost our spirit as a people, it is news like this, that it is possible for us to be champs, too. So guys, I am boasting... We are the champions of the world... and it feels good!

Sadly I missed his fight in the tube yesterday because I changed channels when I thought the fight before them will last a bit longer. When I switched the channel back to the Kapamilya channel where the fight is aired yesterday it was already over. But still it gave me "GOOSEBUMPS" all over upon knowing that Donaire won by TKO in round 2. Boxing is really our thing. I'm so proud. Spread the Pinoy Pride! :)

I was surprised as well when I watched the fight. At first round the fight seemed in favor of Montiel and was kind of boring. The second round I was caught surprised by that very swift punch that brought Montiel to be downed that fast. Wow that was some kind of a punch there Nonito Congratulations! Your country is once again proud of your achievement.

Well that may happen in the future fights that he will face. I know that he still has many plans for his career for now. I just hope that he will remain as humble as every Filipino boxers are known to.

News reported that Montiel sustained fractures on the jaw and the ribs. I do pray he recovers soon. I don't want anyone getting injured in sports... Hey dainy, our relations go back to the old Manila-Acapulco galleon trade. And we do consider Mexicans blood brothers. We have the same surnames. But of course the features are different. Mexicans have classic faces, and we are mixed Malayan and Chinese.. but hey, we both are reigning in the boxing arena. So long as the Japanese and the Thai are not in the pound for pound ranking, I am fine with that,

I just changed channels and luckily i switched just as the second round was starting. And ooh boy, that's a very impressive knock out. I pity Montiel thrashing in the floor involuntarily as if his body wasn't expecting that much power from Donaire. And because of it I lost my voice.

What? How loud did you scream? I was more of stunned watching the fallen boxer. I was surprised he stood up at all, and it was bad judgment on the referee to let Donaire throw a couple of punches more... Montiel was so dazed he didn't know what the commotions was all about. I think he didn't even know what time and space was he in... What was the ref thinking, that Montiel could recover in 5 counts from a Donaire blow? Whatever, whatever... I am just happy we have a new champ...

Yes, u can. It's about time asian countries have something to boost about. The world is changing and very soon, there's going to be a change of hands in power too. In the past, we chinese or even asians are often belittled and judged lowly by the americans and europeans. Right now, asians are improving yet europeans are remaining stagnant, living on past reputations. With results on the boxing ring, WE DO have the right to BOOST!

Here's what, I always believe that Asians has the staying power for such strenuous activities! Hmmmm, lest the Europeans and the Americans misconstrue this, I only mean that we have the stamina because we eat rice!

watched the fight online... montiel did not have the chance in that fight. i posted here in one of the threads in boxing that i'll be on donaire. he has the power, speed, and reach advantage. montiel has the experience since he has been fighting in that weight class longer and i though he can match up with donaire's power. needless to say, he can't. the left cross to the side of montiel's head literally and figuratively shook the life out of him. big win for donaire there. looking forward to more fights from him in this weight class. grats to all the donaire and under7.5 backers out there. that was easy money!!! cheers!!!

for those who place bets on sports, in this case, boxing, over/under is basically figuring out how long a match will take. so for this match, the nominated over/under rounds is 7.5. so you basically choose if the match will last over 7.5 rounds or under 7.5 rounds. if the match reaches the 8th round, the over 7.5 rounds wins! in this case, the match ended in the 2nd round after donaire knocked out montiel so the under 7.5 round wins. sorry for the late reply, didn't see thsi post until now. hope this explains the matter eileen. cheers!!!

Definitely. I was screaming when Montiel went down, though I admit, it was a little scary seeing him like something was definitely wrong. Good thing the ref stopped the fight before anything bad happens to him.

Hello there, Yeah, I know. but i got tired of watching boxing, and it's been quite entertaining for the Filipino People. but we are still in this situation and for only what happened in boxing has made people smile. "but inspired to do something better with their own lives after seeing the winning fight" is something else that others rarely do and most only boast do the usual thing.I, myself want to be the best of what i do because we have others who have proven that we can do better for this country. if only majority realizes it.

Little things mean a lot. A tiny smile can produce humongous happiness. We just have to feel good about the little blessings that we receive each day. Before we know it, the little things have grown and we are a better people and ours is an ideal country. See the public school children? They are a lot cleaner, prettier, happier, smarter than before, aren't they? When they grow up in a few years, they will be better citizens than the grown-ups we have now.

Yes friend we can boast but our triumph will not be complete if we do not also congratulate and salute Fernando Montiel for being a good sport and champion and all the great Mexican fighters, who like us has contributed so much to the advancement of boxing. It only shows how people and even countries can become good friends thru sports( Mexico was our sister country during the Galleon trade),so Viva Filipinas,Viva Mexico
