Craving for peanuts!

India
February 20, 2011 6:01am CST
Have any one of you ever had such cravings? For the past week or so, I have suddenly developed a craving for roasted peanuts! I bought a kilo of them and roasted them all, and I just cannot stop gorging on them when I have an urge to eat the nuts. Several times a day, even when I am full after a nice meal, I just cannot stop myself reaching for the peanuts! Is it normal or just a sign of some weakness? I wonder what it is!

Peanuts are extremely good for your health, that is what I am sure about.Even I cannot resist when they are in front of me, or else I forget about them. Your craving must be a passing phase, do have it in moderation.Try to revert to some other interests, or maybe your body needs it for certain nutritive values it lacks.

Yeah, probably you are right!! I do need some other kind of interest! Or maybe something lacking in terms of vitamins or some such thing! Only way to find out would be how soon or later this craze for peanuts goes away :) LOL :)

If I buy peanuts, it's in their packets ready roasted; I'd never buy them and then roast them myself. Roasted, salted peanuts are delicious for sure, and I've had my moments of devouring entire packets of them, but I've never had a craving for them I have to say. I tend to drink a lot of tea and coffee during the day, and some would call this a craving, but I would avoid any craving for food myself, because if I eat too much I tend to feel sleepy, and even low. I reserve my eating largely for meal times, and even at that, they make me sleepy; but that's fine, I can crash in my arm chair and watch a movie. But during the day, I like to work hard, and food would get in the way of the work. That's just me. But then, my craving (for tea and coffee) is among the most unhealthy of them all. Having said that, I do like to occasionally take a spoon and eat peanut butter straight from the jar; but not as a craving; just as a snack: peanuts and peanut butter deliver a very strong protein hit I believe.

You are very lucky Carl that you are able to keep yourself away from temptation of surrendering to your cravings! Yes, but you do have to manage your cravings for tea and coffee, at one point I too used to have large quantities of them during the day and had to work hard to reduce both! I love peanut butter too! :)

Good to know there are other peanut fans too! :) Yes I do eat other fruits too and thanks for the info on boiled peanuts! I must try it as soon as I can! Sounds yummy! In India, when peanuts are in season, that is when they are newly harvested, there are a number of hawkers around who sell peanuts boiled in salt and turmeric water. They look really delicious but I never tried them because I have always been afraid of the quality of water used in them.

Yes, yes same with me here. I'm a big fan of peanuts. I rather have peanuts than other snacks like chips or cookies. If I ran off my peanuts supply then I'll look for my potato chips. I like plainly roasted the best, but I'll say yes to honey coated, garlic flavor or chili coated peanuts.

Hello loveandpeace, I think eating peanuts is certainly better than potato chips. Yummmmmmy, honey coated and garlic peanuts certainly sound tasty, I have only tried salted ones and dry mango powder and red chillies coated peanuts!

I've never craved roasted peanuts. This will sound bad but I've craved the salt on the peanuts. I decided it was the salt when I tried the unsalted peanuts. I don't think it would be a good idea for me to roast the nuts myself. I would probably gorge on them like you are. NOT GOOD FOR ME.

I get that way sometimes where I will crave something and cant stop eating it then all the sudden the craving goes away. I am sure yours to will pass. Peanuts are very healthy for you so I say as long as you want to snack on them go right ahead. That is really cool that you roast them yourself I wouldnt even know how to do that. If I want roasted peanuts I just buy them that way. I am not sure if you are a man or woman but if you are a woman could this possibly be a pregnancy craving? Before I knew that I was pregnant I was craving grilled cheese and tomato soup so bad. I would eat 5 grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup every day for lunch for about a week and then all I sudden a week later I realized I was late for my period and found out I was pregnant I realized why I was having such strong cravings and such a huge appetite. After that the pregnancy craving turned into carrots and celery with ranch dressing. With my son I didnt really crave anything but chocolate.

Dear Shaggin, I am a woman :) and yes, first I too thought I might be pregnant, but I am not! But since peanuts are healthy as so many of us feel and assert I am not going to worry much! And roasting peanuts is not all that hard, only thing is you need patience and a lot of time. I simply roast a huge batch of peanuts in one go and store! Well, cheese and tomato soup don't sound so bad, they sound yummy, in fact! With my son, I craved a lot for apples and bananas, of all things! :)

Hi. kalyani1234. They say that when you crave a certain food that is healthy, that is your body telling you that you need more of its minerals in your body. I do crave for sea salt almonds at times. I try to eat, 1.5 ounces of it daily if possible.

I have always liked nuts and if they are in the house I will just keep eating them until they are gone. I wouldn't consider it a craving though. Nuts have a lot of protein in them, but also a lot of calories and fat, so you should try not to eat too many of them. Maybe there is something in them that your body needs.

Yes Cereblleum, they are loaded with proteins and fats, but as these fats are good ones, I tend to tunr a blind eye to them :)

There is nothing abnormal in it, i like peanuts, my wife keeps jarful of roasted peanut seeds, the outer skin is removed and lightly salted; they taste great, after my food i consume some daily, while moving in train i buy it for timepass, thogh it is almost 10 times costly.. Have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘@Bhuwan@’. .

Hi! Generally when your body is craving something that you don't normally eat it's telling you that it is lacking in something. In your case, because you are craving peanuts, which are high in the B vitamins, it could mean that you are deficient in some of your B vitamins and your body is telling you what it needs to fix it.... Also peanuts are high in fat so try not to each a whole lot at one time! :)

There you have it! Bang on target! Just recently my doctor told me that I may have little deficiency of the B vitamins! Now I know why I have been eating peanuts all the time..... although I must try and somehow moderate the quantities.. Best option would to buy them a little at a time!
