From Night Shift to Morning Shift

Philippines
February 20, 2011 2:21pm CST
Hi everyone, I have been working night shift for the last two years and just recently told to work in the morning shift again, which I find so hard to do. It is sometimes hard to adjust our sleeping habits especially for me coming from a graveyard shift. I am sometimes thinking of transferring to other department that has normal office hours. I hate morning traffic!

I've been to all kinds of shifts, but the morning shift has become very hard for me. I can no longer wake up at 6AM or 7AM. My body clock has long gone bananas but so far being in the night shift still works for me. I am used to morning and late afternoon shift, but morning is indeed a struggle. Plus I have to get to work and go home during the rush hour, and this means extra travel time for me because of the traffic.

Hi anne, The only thing that I hate about 9am to 5pm shift is the traffic. I need to leave home two hours before my time-in while when I'm still working graveyard it only took me 15 to 20 minutes to get into my work/office place.LOL! I just hate the wasted hours because of traffic and rush hour.

somehow, i could relate to you. i really love sleeping too. as of now, i am working overtime where i would sleep at around 2 am and wake up at 6 am and work whole day. i just love sleeping so much. that without it, my hormones just rose up and i would be having a not so good day. yeah, i hope that things would get normal to you too. as for me, i would suggest that you take care of yourself too. so that you will have a healthy lifestyle and health body. it is good for you too. cheers!

I know it is real hard to change the shift when you are set on one shift, management has to think about employees in positive attitute. i know how painful it is and when they just change schedule without your consent it is more difficult.

i think if you had a chance, you must change your shift...if you had married, change the shift..it`s not good for you and your family... but if you are unmarried and maybe it`s hard to change, just enjoy and be patient

I have a friend who is always working strange shift patterns. It can start to affect you if you do it for too long.

To reset our bodies sleep clock requires several hours of sleep according to the new schedule. 12 hours in bed based on our new schedule will work wonders to placing the body on track.

Well, it can be hard when you are used to one shift getting used to another shift especially when you have been working the graveyard shift, and then move to days. That is a complete change for your body and sometimes hard to adjust. I know over the yrs. I have worked every shift that there is, and really wanting to find a daytime 9-5 position again myself.

I cannot relate to you since I am always working on morning shift always. Bue I can understand that you can get disorientated with your normal routine. But I guess in time you can get the hang of everything here. But I think you can always ask your HR to transfer you back to your night shift if you like it there and find it more acceptable to you.

Oh..that is very hard. A few years ago, I had to work 3rd shift for 6 months and then dayshift for 6 months. I did it a few times and decided the money wasn't worth it. I sis it before I was in management full fledge. I would manage 3rd shift during the busy season and then during the slow season, I would come back to days in my regular position. It was so hard. I hated getting readjusted and don't know if I ever did while I was swtching around..to either shift..lol. Good luck and hang in there..you'll get better at it.

Hello!I also like the night shift. But heard people say, long night shift,to the person's body or an influence. Why?Because the person is hematopoiesis in night,if night can not get rest, can be affected.

That is really a drastic change specially when your body is already accustomed in sleeping during the day. I am currently working at night as well and I really want to work during the day. I don't care about the traffic and falling in line just to get an fx on my way home, it makes me feel alive and normal. Hopefully I will be able to find a morning work.

So true. I can now say that I am loving the morning shift! LOL! I have more time to sleep and I feel like a normal person again. When I was still in the night-shift, it feels like I am a vampire who never get the chance to sleep at night. I was working like a bee during night time and got home while the sun still shines. I hope you'll be able to find a morning scheduled work. Happy Lotting!

It may be hard to adjust with the new schedule but I think that it will be healthy for you. You have been working for the last two years on the night shift? That feels tiring already giving a thought of it. Sleeping during the day and sleeping at night I believe are so different. It will be better to rest at night believe me.

Yes it was tiring. Working at night for the last two years was insane and I should be thankful for working at regular hours because I have realized the huge difference in working during the day and night. Thanks jhaidro!
