Claudio Raneri has handed in his resignation at his current club Roma after the loss to Genoa after holding a three goal lead. I was curious if any Italians or any followers of the Italian league have any thoughts on his resignation was he doing all that bad a job at Roma or do you think he is taking his chances at trying to get a bigger job. I thought he was doing a decent job at Roma well despite the bigger success of last season but I really believed he stick around and improve the results. Yet it seems to me that he has just given up any thoughts on this?

It is not a secret that Ranieri is a Roma fan, so I am sorry for him not being able to have more success with his favorite team. But he felt that he cannot do more for his beloved team and resigned. This is a great gesture from him, I am sure that he is very sorry that he couldn't celebrate something important with his team.

Sorry, but I cannot see Montella doing well as a coach. He was not the type of player who makes me feel that he will be a good coach. He was a good striker, but I don't know if he is going to make a successful career as a trainer.

He must be really disappointed but I do believe he may have had success if he had remained at the helm but it's not to be so now as he's moved on and now. Roma will begin a new reign with Vincenco Montella to take charge until the end of the season, I wish him luck in fulfilling Roma's fans expectations.

Ok, I was expecting that especially after the Champions League defeat against Shakhtar. Ranieri is a good coach but I think he is better in signing good players.
He always finds potential in good players. But somehow, he has not been able to take Roma to next level. With Ancelotti being linked to Roma, Ranieri was on his way out.

He's certainly good at picking out top players but to say he never took Roma to the next level isn't completely true maybe not this year but he managed a second place finish coming close to beating Inter Milan and were unlucky not to. I do agree this season has been poor though but he should still be given the full backing as he could just change their Roma's fortunes once more. I know he resigned but if he had the full backing maybe he wouldn't have felt the need to do so.

I think I'd rather have Raneris experience until the end of the season at least but it's time for Montella to prove himself as a manager and like you say you never know he might just press all the right buttons and they could end up in a champions league spot. Raneri will certainly have no problems in getting another job he's got a lot of experience and obtained some success along the way.

I think Raineri is a slightly over rated coach. I think he is good for second rung of clubs, but cannot lead a top club. That probably was what decided his fate at Chelsea. At Roma, the results this season have been pretty much up and down without much consistency and that I am pretty sure that had he not given his resignation, he would anyhow got the boot sooner rather than later.
Cheers!

You may think he isn't a great coach but at Chelsea you easily argue that it was his signings that made them successful which suggests he has a knack of picking up good players and good judgement for various clubs. I myself am not a massive fan but do believe that at Chelsea given the financial backing by Abramovich he would have succeeded in winning the league. He managed to finish second with Chelsea which is a good achievement. Most of Chelseas success was set up by Raneri with Mourinho getting pretty much all the credit. I think big clubs would welcome him anyday he had a good season with Roma last year coming close to winning the league ahead of Inter and Mourinho. So doubting his ability is wrong I feel as he has a decent track record.

I actually do not think it is about the players that he signs. It is more about the mentality. With these players also, at Chelsea he was playing with a bit of small team mentality to salvage points against big teams. When Mourinho came he changed that attitude and made it a winning one. I think that is where the difference between good and great managers lies.
Cheers!

Maybe so but his players pretty much won the league for Mourinho so he should have least thanked Raneri lol but that will never happen because he's the 'special one' in other words he's a cocky git lol. Your right to some extent though about the playing mentality although Mourinhos style was pretty much an easy way to play and could also be labelled as a small team mentality. As in one sense who looked for his team to get a single goal then defend that one goal lead that's pretty much a smaller teams mentality. He may have won with his style but it was also one of the reason which lead to him leaving Chelsea as he couldn't play the attractive football Abramovich so desperately wanted.

He's handed in his resignation although the club haven't accepted it yet I doubt they will stand in the way of his resignation though. A good coach who has done well enough at Roma if not spectacular this season you just have to look to last season to see his worth at the club.

I think Claudio has made a good job in his time in Roma, and I don't think it was his fault, that Roma lost against Genoa. When a team has a 3-0 lead, then it's also about the players on the team.
Last season he got Roma in the Champions League.
Roma at 8th in the league is very bad, and not acceptable for them.

Well, Roma still have good chances for getting a Champions League spot. I also thought that Claudio would stay for the rest of the season, and see what he could do. All coaches can have a bad period, so I still think he could have done a good job this season.

While 8th ins't a great position they could be further up the table but there not all that far off another champions league spot only a few points or so. Also with them doing so well last year I believed Raneri would stay on and finish the season at least to see how things fare out. Your certainly correct with the defeat to Genoa the team should not be letting a three goal lead to slip away and end up in losing. Going by last season though Raneri could have worked out at Roma in the long run as he came very close to winning the Italian league last year which is an achievement in itself for a team of Roma's reputation.

trying to give opinion from the other point of view.
i'm a juventini. this situation is just the same as a couple seasons ago, when Ranieri finally replaced by Ferrara (an also ex-player of Juve).
At that time, 'losing' is just like a friend to Ranieri. It just won't go away from him. Finally, when the two (or more, i forgot) last matches held by Ferrara, Juve can finally back to winning path.
Just hope the same for Romanians. Although, if we have to compete, i'd rather see Juve in top 4 league rather than Roma (no offense :D). Since Juve also did not play with stable performance lately :(
So in my opinion, Ranieri is not quite a good coach. Just as the same goes to Rafa Benitez :)

Raneri still managed to guide Roma to a good league finish last season only just missing out on winning the league also remembering that Raneri took Roma from a relegation spot to take Roma on an unbeaten run of twenty four games in the process of finishing second. This season hasn't been great but with such success last year then I thought he'd stick it out and try and improve Romas season and performances. I really think he could have something with Roma and just maybe made them a top team in Italy once again.

One thing i agree, Ranieri should be given a chance until at least the end of this season. And I don't know about the management, but I think they feel the same, for they do not fired him (yet :).
But maybe the pressure Ranieri had was so great until he felt that finally he had just to resign.
Just don't like when seeing a manager can't accomplished his job for one full season, whether he's fired or resigning by himself. :(
