There are alot of people that tend to be rather extravagant and buy things that they know that they can not really afford as well as the things they buy are not the things they need.People find it hard enough just paying the bills yet they are the people that tend to buy alot of things that they do not need or will not use and then can not pay the bills that they should pay.

Yes, there are a lot. Specially here at our office, there are employees here acting as if they are so fabulous by buying clothes, bags and shoes as if they have very high salaries !
They do it with the aid of their credit cards. Little do they know that they will be indebted heavily on their credit cards as their purchase piles up together with the interests.

Definately there are a lot of people who tend to live beyond their means. They just seem to be driving the nice new cars, live in fancy homes, wear really expensive stylish clothes, but at the same time might be having $100,000 or more in Credit Card debt, owe everyone else, getting close to loosing home etc. due to Credit, and eating practically nothing but wanting to keep up with the Jones, or look like they are at least in public. In reality this is not the Best way to live, and shows how the US economy got to where it is for sure.

i think so.. i mean i know what i can afford and usually the people i know that have a lot of stuff they end up not paying other bills like the important ones! even when i was debt free i could only afford so much so if some one is in the same earnings is having way more i would think there is some credit cards maxed or something

There really are a lot of people that are this way. In fact, my husband and I used to be like this before we moved into our own home and really started to realize the impact that the bills from buying things that we didn't need would have on us. We actually made the drastic decision a year and a half ago to quit spending money that we were borrowing and only spending the money that was in our pocket. In doing this we've learned to live on less than we are earning because we still do have that debt that has to be paid off from prior purchases.

Oh yes there are and most of them are in deep debt, thanks to credit cards.
People have insatiable wants and desires and because of this credit cards, they are able to acquire them even if they are not financially capable of paying for them.
Thus, they see themselves in deep debt.

Hi Dear Joystick! I am from India and I think most of the Indians have this tendency! I think most of the Government employees they have their Vehicles, luxury house hold items on equated monthly instalment, which they are paying through their noses every month, and because of this they are left with hardly any amount to run the family smoothly.
Now a days in private sector also the young couples who are working have the fascination for acquiring new flats. So they also go in for Bank loans and they are committed to repay the loan for next 10 or 15 tears which become a lot of tension for these people!
Personally I am a man who cut the coat according to the cloth available with me! But today I find many a people are interested in showing off and they are spending beyond their means! To get indulge in such things one needs to have extra income and here the corruption begins which may be in the form of bribery or things resembling something like that!
So in nutshell I think the habit of overspending not only making one's life miserable but it is subjecting a individual to various vices, including all sorts of corruptions in the society! Thanks !

Yeah, I know a lot of people like that, and I admit, sometimes I am guilty of that crime.. I guess sometimes, you just let go of everything, and just give in to the craving or the temptation of the buy... But I have learned to control my temptations, though sadly, not everyone can do that, and I know one who has a lot of outstanding debt to credit cards because of his impulsive shopping, and every month he only pays the minimum amount required because he does not have enough money to pay for the balance.

Yes. A whole lot. People just cannot be satisfied with what they have. Specially those who are jealous of other people's stuffs and people who want to show off. A lot of people buy stuffs that they do not really need. They buy things using credit card and yet cannot pay up their debts.

The existence of the credit card companies is based upon this concept. I remember my first credit card. I just had to break it in. Took a friend and his wife to a luxurious dinner. Put almost 250 dollars on my first purchase. I cut the card in half after that. So many people live under the illusion of materialistic satisfaction. How many people do you know that boasted about their new automobile only to have it repossessed a month or two later? And how about those that buy the house of their dreams only to have it foreclosed? And how about those working poor that just have to have 200 dollar boots or 150 dollar sneakers. Who can figure?

There are indeed too many people living beyond their means. That is the real cause of the housing market crash. People who knew they could not make their house payments were getting into loans and being approved for these huge houses. People feel entitled to these items. I am glad that we did not get a larger house, because then we would be one of those statistics. Eventhough, we got approved for a lot more house, we looked at what we could afford, despite what the bank thought we could afford.

Yeah, a lot of females around me are spending extravagantly on clothes and cosmetics, especially those in the office. Some of them spend nearly all the money earned for makeups in order to get a better looking. As for me, I'm always trying to keep a tight budget and only buy things that are necessary in the previous two years after graduation. However, right now I find myself gradually spending more on un-necessary things, like extra clothes. I'm not having that much clothing yet I'm craving to have more, perhaps this is the natural instincts of women. Anyhow, my spendings are lesser than my other counterparts but much more than my pervious years. I'll keep in mind not to spend more this year on clothing 'cause I've already have enough to wear.

definitely. That is my people are being chased by their creditors ans credit card companies. People tend to spend money thay don't have or haven't earned it yet. A mantra in life that we should all follow is we must live below our means not over it.

I knew a few with this kind of trait. I have a cousin and former classmate who is really a boastful socialite. That's the best terms I could describe her. She would even borrow money from our classmates and friends just to buy her luxuries. She would quarrel with her brother-in-law that the latter is spending her sister's money. While she is the one who have been spending her sister's financial assistance to her with unnecessary stuffs. She always brags about her new stuffs without considering that her sister is working hard for it. She doesn't work at all and just depending on everyone.

When a person cannot afford an item and they put it on their credit card they are living beyond their means. And then they go and do it again and again. I fell into that trap when I was younger. I payed the price for it also. Cut up all my cards and never went there again. It is like an addiction and get way out of hand real quick. And the banks love it!

Yes I do know that as I'm there now. Mine was due to job loss and I lived off my credit cards and unemployment went to housepayment and then paid gas, light, water, and food with credit cards. Now in so far can't find my way out. Have to file bankrucy and loose my home. I should of just walked away the first time and never looked back and kept the credit cards. But I tried to save it all and I failed. So I am back at work and still no help going on. All's I got when I tried to make some kind of payment was no not good enough. So I called a lawyer. as they filed on me first. So yeah sometimes it is not your fault. But then yes I do work with a guy that filed and he should of lost it all but no. He got a new car new furniture. Me no I have noe of that. Paid my taxes. have a nice night

Yes, there are people with such behavior. There are people who are so attracted towards material things, believing that having such possession earns them a certain image or status in the society. Some of them are simply show-offs. They want to be talked about and admired for the things that they have. These are the people who do not know how to prioritize their needs. In most cases, their wants overcome their needs.

of course there are a lot of people who are like that, now a days people some people do not want to have a budget plan that's why they are always out of budget because they are not using their money into the things which is needful like what you said buying the things that they don't need, that's the use of credit cards as well just swipe here and there if they have things to like and they don't even want it when they get hope to realize, and so when their paycheck has come it's value has lost it's meaning already...
