I have a rather old very independent female cat and I have thought about getting another one for company for her, now I have heard many things about what the best mix of cats... Do two female cats get on better than a male and a female and for future reference do two male cats maybe get on better...I will be very interested in what you guys think....

I have heard from others that sometimes when you have an older cat, especially if they have been with you most of their lives, they do not want another cat interrupting their life. They are Happy with you just as is, and will usually fight with any other cats brought around. I would say if you could borrow one on a Trial basis to see if they would get along first might be the Best option for sure.

If they are fixed and both young they can learn to live together. If one is older they may have problems getting along. If you don't get them fixed and have a male and a female you will have problems steadily. If they are two males there will be problems too. Not sure about two females. If you get them at the Humane Society they will fix them right there and you should not have many problems.
