I have noticed lately that my 2 year old daughter sometimes uses her right hand to scribble something and there are also other times she uses her left hand. This does not only refer to the time she uses her hand for writing but also while playing with her toys. It made me wonder whether she is right handed or left handed? At what age will we know whether our child is right or left handed? Although it doesn't bother me if she is right handed or left handed. It just made me curious. :)

Normally it depends on the readiness of the child. According to some psychologists, once the child holds the pencil on her right and starts to write something that's the time we can say she is right handed or vice versa. But it depends on us as parents if we are going to let them practice using their right hand they will learn to used their right hand for everything. We just have to guide them properly.

I also prefer that my daughter will be right handed but then she gets to have the final say on this. :)

I think it's when something becomes a ritual that you find out what hand they are. When I was young I used to use both hands quite a lot but soon starting using my right hand the most. It seems to matter which parent taught you how to do things as when I was really young before my brother came along my Mum who is right handed used to use her right hand infront of me whereas my brother is left handed and our Dad was not away at work like he was when I was a baby/toddler.

My husband is a left handed but im a right handed and as soon as our daughter started to learn how to eat by herself there I noticed that she has a chance to become left handed because she would always hold her spoon on her left hand. So everytime she eats her meal and hold her spoon on left hand I would correct it right away. now that she is four she learned to write her name by her right hand. tho many people says that left handed are talented people I still prefer to teach my daughter the standard way. but if time comes that she feels more comfortable being a left handed then its her choice has to be respected.

We have the same situation. My husband is left handed while i'm right handed so i guess the choice will really be up to my daughter if she'll use her right or left hand in writing.
