Hi All, After Ranieri handed his resignation, Roma have appointed Vincenzo Montella as their new coach. This move is for the remainder of the season. Montella is a former Roma player and was a youth team coach for them. He is just 36 years old and adds to the increasing list of youth coaches. However, Ancelotti is the hot favorite to take over the reins for the new season.

I don't know anything about this coach, but I hope he will do a great job, because they really need it. Since he only is 36 years old, I can imagine that he doesn't have much experience. I don't think Ancelotti is the coming Roma Coach, since I think he stays in Chelsea.

I was expecting your response as you are a Roma fan. Even I don't know much about Montella but he will be under no pressure given that he will be coach only till end of this season.

I like this news. The reason is that now a days this good trend of promoting internal resources for the top job seems to be getting a bit of momentum around the different leagues. We saw Newcastle do it with Hughton and then Blackburn and now Roma. I wish him all the best in his new job and hope that he can do better than Raineri. Cheers! Ram

It is indeed becoming a trend. Also, former players are likely chosen for the job. Guardiola is one example. Even, Argentina had Maradona for a while.

As I have said in my previous comments, I don't expect too much from Montella. He was a decent striker, but something tells me that he will not be a successful coach. Hope to be wrong, I wish him all the best, but my feeling is that he is not made for coaching. If I were a Roma fan I would give him time and not criticize him after the first mistake or failure. Time will tell if he will do a good job or not.

I think he has been chosen to hold position till season end. After that, decision will be made for long term.
