Hey friends,
First of all let me tell you that I am 18 years old and my body weight is 74 kg.That means I am fat(not so much but still considerable). But as one should be aware towards his body fitness and health,I have recently started doing workouts and also I am taking a balanced diet.In this balanced diet, rice is excluded, because commonly we people know that rice and sweets have fat in them, means taking them regularly or in a large amount, can build up fat in our body.
I am following this balanced diet from approx 3-4 months. But at sometimes, may be due to some reason ,you can say in a week only 1-2 timess,I take rice in my lunch meal. And therefore i have everytime noticed that whwnever,I take it,I feel lazy or sleepe. And because of that after taking rice ,I sleep for atleast 1-2 hours, then when i wake up i feel totally fresh.
I know the reason the behind this , as i am a medical student .But do you know ?Do you also feel the same, whenever you take rice in your meal ?

I think you should probably not totally exclude rice from your diet. You need to have some starches. When you say you eat a balanced diet, what is included? When you have eaten rice recently, how much did you eat? What else did you eat with it? I only ate rice a lot when I was in China and then it was the majority of the meal. I don't know if this helps. Have a great day!

I remember when I was at school, I felt very sleepy after having rice for lunch, then I felt asleep on my desk in the lessons and got yelled at... When I went to the casino, I had rice for dinner sometimes, when I came back to the table, I felt asleep on the table again... I think eating rice does make you sleepy, I think it is because rice is very heavy and filling.

I also feel the same after meal. I have noticed that this occur most to persons who are let's say "fat". I know what you mean about not so much as being fat because I'm the same as you do. Yes I'm not that huge but I still consider myself fat. Isn't it because of our size that makes us feel this way after meal? I also have colleagues who experience the same and they're all fat too.
I just don't if other people who aren't that fat experienced this.

Rice is a high starch food. Converts to sugar. Have you checked your glucose level after eating? Is it possible that you are diabetic? May I suggest that you do this as a precaution. Just to be on the safe side.

dear Sonai, It is the carbohydrates that are a cause of this. I is a known fact that carbs cause people to be sluggish and sleepy much earlier than usual sleep time. Medical science has proven this. One of the science channels had featured this with two chess players, one on a high carb diet and the other on a balanced carb and protein diet compete about a hour after a meal. The one with carb diet was simply not able to think out his strategy in the game while the other had no problems.
This effect is remarkably higher when raw rice is cooked and eaten, while par-boiled rice available in West Bengal region does not effect so much. This is because of removal of starch. Hey! you are a Doctor in making so you know it!
Ayurveda has used this fact to manage mild Insomnia due to restless and agitated mind.

Oh no! Never experience that... Us, Filipinos eat rice always as in-- breakfast, lunch and dinner... Its part of our day to day life... Personally, I feel my day is not complete without eating rice... I don't get full... not satisfied at all... well, I am not fat. slim actually...Thanks God!

i don't feel such a thing after eating rice. I love eating rice and i eat rice once a day. It provides carbohydrates to our body and is also full of energy. It is my suggestion to you that you should take rice once a day. If you feel lazy and drowsy after eating rice, you should make habit of it. I ensure you that you will become habitual very soon. Just first keep away from this thinking that having rice makes you lazy and drowsy.

As rice was one of high carbo source, I think if you're not used to have rice as regular meal then you should only take it in a small portion. I'm an asian and I eat rice everyday thus I limited my portion so I don't get too full.

Rice is our staple food here in my country so everyday three times a day we have rice and some have it as snack with any viand so i don't actually feel anything unusual. When i dont have rice for the whole day, i feel sluggish and moody.

I only have this feeling when I take in a lot of rice but in small servings, I always feel fine.
I always have rice in a meal and whenever I take so much of it, breathing becomes difficult and yes your eyes tends to be in the sleeping mode. They say that it is never healthy to sleep when full but I have been doing it for so long and so yes I am really fat. I am now thinking on being active because with the type of body I have, it feels different.
