We value our over seas workers and even treat them as heroes for bringing in those much needed dollars for our economy, what's with this government and all the previous administrations? I mean if they are that so important to us then why do we not have an effective contingency plan in case troubles sparks up on different regions like we are seeing now in Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Yemen etc.., waiting for Filipinos to get killed?before we wake up. Dose our government know that priced possessions should be well guarded or are we just poor business managers? what do you think? Obviously our Government is not doing enough. What would you suggest to prepare us in the future?

Each government evaluates the situation for his citizen in these countries. By example, my country has repatriated very quickly our workers in Libya, but not in Egypt -- some companies have decided to do it though, but not the state --. It is difficult for us to know if there is a real threat, and the threat is certainly less for citizen of a small or neutral country than for those of larger countries. We have to trust our governments.

Yeah friend I understand your point, but your government has the capability and the means to do that and is always well prepared and does not deploy that much, I mean I am speaking of hundreds and thousands of Filipinos and the Government just seem to be doing nothing, yeah go cross the border on your own and we will be there to meet you. French foreign legions can very well do this on their own, and other governments would have a carrier streaming down th gulf by now complete with Shinook helicopters and a marine regiment, not us, infact as we speak the government is still discussing how to go about it, sigh

yeah targeted because this jerks see this Nationalities as $$$ plus the chance to make an international statement, we can't wait for a U.N. resolution, it's just mayhem out there especially in Libya, it's all around the news here that both sides are just attacking anybody, if we do not move fast they will attack anybody that looks different from them, news is still unconfirmed but what if it happens? A Eunuch would perform better than out Government

Well I guess it is the same old bureaucracy that exist in the government today. I think this should be reformed and changed already. But I do not see it changed as of yet. DFA and POEA is pointing fingers who should do the repatriation of our OFW left in the middle of the crisis. We have seen many other governments who are already moving towards getting their citizens out but ours is ust starting to mobilized. Oh well that only shows how ill prepared we are when this things happen.

Yes I agree with you, other countries are already moving while we are still in the process of finger pointing, as of now I think we only have an acting DFA secretary, hope they get something in place before all hell breaks loose especially in Libya

In fairness to the people who are assigned to take care of the welfare of our OFW I personally think that they are doing their jobs. The only problem is they do not have the material resources to translate what is expected for them to do in such a situation. We do not have a concrete contingency plan for this over seas workers since this would entail a lot of expenditures for our government which we obviously do not have.

but these people bring in the much needed dollars to our country and we have been sending OFW's since the late seventies, wonder where all those money went why till now we still do not have and effective emergency plan in place, I hope there will be no more excuses after this.

Sometimes we should blame also our countrymen not only the government and a big WHY. The truth is, majority of the overseas Filipino workers in the countries that you mentioned, actually almost all the mid-east countries that have Filipinos have a half-hearted to go home even there's a problem in the country that they are working. Say, we have a good contingency plan in those countries and everything is prepared, the airplane, the passport, their salary is complete, the air ticket, personal belongings and no problem with their employer, in short everything is fine. The problem is, our country, what they will do here in the Philippines, looking for a minimum salary? a below minimum salary, apply and apply again with no guarantee of landing a job and they most of them don't trust the government, they thinking of 'no future at all' in their homeland, that's why, why should go home? They will gamble their life even for the the sacrifice of their lives.
What do you expect in our country, the embassy people? They are too slow to move especially if middle east countries are involved. But, if in western countries are the one involved, i think they are too quick to move, you know what I mean? Please pray for our countrymen in other countries for their safety not only in those mentioned countries but in the whole world.

hi friend, never mind those that do not want to go back and it's just fine with them there, but how about those who as I type this are begging the government to rescue them, some had been advised to stay in their work place and are running out of food and water? Others make a mad dash to the Tunisian or Egyptian border , passing dangerous checkpoints that they do not know who is in control. yes friend let's just pray, anyway that's all we can do for them, let's also pray for our government to wake up that it won't be like this forever.

That's the problem (always) if someone who is asking for a help from a far far away country, expect that government people will not act immediately, I think it's already in the 'system'. The government doesn't care their status especially in Libya. We as an ordinary people, always care the plight of our countrymen but the government, they telling us that the Filipino overseas workers are unsung heroes.
I have a solution for that problem, change slowly the head of every department up to lowest rank, and who will be the replacement?, the private people, the employees from the private companies, these people are fast worker and they are not corrupt, they will work 8 hours a day (the government personnel works only 6 hours a day because 2 and a half hours lunch break and an hour of snack time but not all, they always killl the time). From that, we have already a good department head and follows the subordinates and look for another private employees from the private company and slowly but surely we will have a fastest government and will erase that bureaucracy, red tape, corruption and most of all the bad image of the government people.
If that happened, no more problems of our Filipinos in Libya, Bahrain, Egypt and other countries because we have 'decent' personnel from our government. It will reduced the critics of the government from the decent personnel.
