Well I was going to call my sister the other day on my home phone...picked up the phone and dialed her number. Its the only number I know without looking it up as all the numbers are programed into my cell phone. So when I want to call someone....I have to use my cell! I really should write all numbers in a book as if my cell got lost I would be hopelessly lost to replace them. Do you know alot of numbers by heart? Before my cell phone I knew everyone's phone number...Now I am lazy! So are you also dependent on your cell to call your friends and relatives?

Hi jillhill,
Before the epidemic of mobile phone or cell phone I knew so many phone numbers. Some were of friends some of relatives and some thirty to forty.
Alas! these cell phones have started working as virus and all those home phone or land line phone are into the oblivion.
Now I remember only four people's cell number. Three of them are of my colleagues and one my own. I do not even remember my wifes cell number.
Yes the soon I transfer those number to a note book or a phone number book the safer I would feel.

I have an unbelievable memory for numbers. Am able to code numbers to remember them. For example a friend gave me her cell number last week and I didn't need to program it into my cell. The last 4 digits are the month and year of one of our kid's birthdays. Can also do this with home addresses. I think this explains the reason I can play Keno and do a memory recall of numbers and win. However there are times I can't remember what I did or ate yesterday...lol

Remembering numbers or memorizing them has been a major plus to playing Keno. I won't go into details here because the discussion might be removed. I do depend on my cell if it's for a phone number I haven't called in a very long time. Old age memory block happens once in awhile...lol

The minute I saw that you have a good memory for numbers I knew it would have something to do with keno!!! And that is why you are a winner! I can remember things like small details of a memory..but I have become dependent on my cell for numbers!

Ha ha, the only ones I really have memorized are the two of my direct family who I see.
But I still have many of my old, old nostalgic friends' old home phone numbers, and we still joke around, as it's been way over a decade, some of them 2 decades since they have existed for them and used them! I guess since before the cell phones came out (and caller ID, memory phone book, etc.) we always memorized their numbers. :o)

1) When we were young, we called the same people all th etime even though we saw them in school. (Gabbing days) ;o)
2) We always had to dial every number.
3) This generation we abrely have to dial the whole number. If they called, we just find them on caller ID and push button to call them back. Or we dial redial. Or on our phones, we just find their name in the saved phone file, and punch on their name. Vavoom!

I could never remember my own number. But come to think of it. I always remember my husband's number, even if he changes numbers like crazy, all the time. Mainly because he loses his phone too many times. He's a total klutz but I love him. Funny, as I could never remember my number but I could totally memorize his in a heartbeat. A real mystery...

Before cellphones came into my life i could memorize all of my friend's home number. Even when i had my cellphone already during the first few year i can still memorize all of my friends' cellphone number. But then i got lazy and couldn't remember any of their numbers anymore as they were also fond of changing it once in a while. So now i can only memorize my husband's number without looking at my cellphone.

Most of the numbers I know by heart, but that does not help when you are in an emergency as you forgot even yours. A taxi hit my last born daughter when I was attending a afternoon classes, when I came back from my lectures,I was told that a taxi hit my baby, I wanted to call my relatives, her father and my boss but all those numbers were not where to be found as I cried for the life of my daughter, I could not remember even one,I had to go to my contacts on my cellphone so that I can be able to call. What I am trying to say to you its not lazziness, but depend to the situation you are in that particular time and place not to remember or remember.

Other than my own, I *might* know four or five, perhaps six. One was our home phone number growing up 1975-2009, two of my aunts, my friend's home phone number that she's had for 20+ years, and both of my old home phone numbers, one of which my ex got. I also think I remember several of my dad's former business lines and my last employers phone number. So I really think the only cell number I know is my own--every other number is a long time land line!

Yeah I guess I do, but many of them are no longer in service, at least for the original owner.

I'm not a phone person to begin with so there are very few numbers that I know by heart. Right now I'd say about 4 or 5. Interestingly, I was just thinking of this the other day - I remember the phone number we had when I was a kid about 40 some odd years ago. I also remember the number of 2 of my neighbors.
I guess some things you don't forget. I recently had my cell number changed because it was a very hard number to remember. Now it's easy to remember.

I think that's just the way the human brain works. At least it works. At least some of the time.

Cell phones with their phone books have also made me lazy to remember numbers. However all the numbers that are on my cell phone are also written into my notebook address book. I started doing that after one cell phone quit woking on me and was unable to access the phone book to get numbers. I had to wait for people to call me so i could get their numbers. As they did i added them to my notebook address book.

I can remember more than 150phone numbers in mind. Yes friend, it is true.
My family numbers, my friends numbers, my teachers numbers, my advisors numbers, My well wishers numbers...etc., like wise there are above 150+ mobile and phone numbers i have stored in my memory.
When i am open that stream of numbers some of my friends are fallen on ground, you know. I have a large space of memory. And i m doing that with some memory techniques...

Before i had bought a cellphone i knew many numbers in my mind but when i started to buy the mobile slowly it decreased. But still i know the numbers of my family and some of my close friends. I have a backup of all the contacts in my system, even if mobile contacts erased i can take it back from my system

Do it soon. You can also avail software in the market which enables you to connect your mobile with pc and directly copy the contacts to your pc.

Personally I might know about maybe 5 or so Phone numbers by heart. Possibly more if I thought about it, but most of mine are programmed in my Cell phone to where I would be lost if something ever happened to mine. I know that it has become so much easier anymore to just program a person's number etc. into your Cell phone memory and then just hit contact and dial them from there. Makes you wonder how we ever got along in the old days for sure.

I know quite a bit since I don't have a cell phone and if I did, I would be afraid I'd fall into forgetting if I did. I think if I did have a cell phone, unless I was in a hurry, I wold go ahead and dial it out, just to keep the number in my own memory..

I wouls say that I only know about 5 numbers without looking them up....my parents, my parent-in-laws, sister, closest neighbor, and son's #.
And, it is getting crazy with home numbers, cell numbers.....

Have you wrote them down yet? If you think you should, I would highly suggest doing it right now, if you haven't yet, before you forget, and then your cell crashes, and all your numbers are gone....
It has happened to me before.
