My son and I had both had surgery within the last 3 weeks. My son is already confined to a wheelchair, so we have lots of help in and out of the house. I cannot say enough of how much I appreciate everyone that has come to help and make sure things have been taken care of. We have both been to the doctor this week for checkups. Both of us have good reports, which is good. They had to take spacers out of my sons cast and wrap his cast into place today. He did so good. I was very proud of him. I am finally getting to where I can do most things for myself besides lifting. I will be so glad when I don't have to depend on others for things. How has your week gone? Have you had to depend on people for things and have lots of people in and out of your house?

Wow, that sounds like a full load. I have to admit I have been very fortunate where my health is concerned. The only times I wasn't suppose to clean was when I have my babies, had my tubes tied and my appendix taken out. Each time I healed up enough within days to start back into my routine, even though I was told to not vacuum for a week after having a baby, I still did like a day or two when I got back home..

I had a hernia repaired and was told it could bust open if I did. My son has to be lifted with a lift and put into bed and takes alot of pushing and tugging, which they told me to definitely stay away from. I did do dishes and things that did not take alot lifting or tugging. I sure did not want to ruin what I had repaired.

My husband needs hernia surgery, but he keeps putting it off, I guess it isn't that bad. But I feel he should have it done so it doesn't get any worse..

They had to do a 5 inch incision on me, which the doctor said was a very large cut. My husband needs one done too, but he is afraid of how long it will put him off work. I know they say the longer you wait the worse it is. I should have had mine done a very long time ago. The only reason I did now, was they were taking my gallbladder out and just did it too.

I have also gotten surgery, and my parents helped take care of me. I'm sure it was more of an inconvenience for them than it was for me. My week has gone very well considering I've been recovering. I had my gallbladder taken out and I ever day I feel less sore. I hope your son recovers well.

When my first husband was ill we did have lots of health care workers, and social services, and hospice. When I had foot surgery we did not have a lot of people in, but I had to just sit in my recliner and let life go on around me. I am glad you had good reports, but relax and let people help you while you need it. It will make you stronger when your whole recovery is over.

I am doing much better, and pretty much back to normal, although there are a few things that really still hurt. One is pushing my son up a ramp in a manual chair, so that one I will wait a little longer for. I did get a good rest, but so much needs to be caught up, it is driving me crazy.

I'm glad you are both recovering and getting on your feet...you know what I mean. I began treatment for high blood pressure a couple of weeks ago and last week I began treatment for a condition that is called PreDiabetes. I'm borderline (have been for years) but I don't have full blown Diabetes. I'm searching for information but I cannot find anything suitable. I want a simple explanation of how the disease works, what starts it and how it affects the body and how the treatment works. I want to know what I can eat and drink and when, and what I should not eat. Every I find is kinda vague and one site will conflict with another. I was quite distressed at first, then worried, now I'm confused but accepting and grateful that I can handle things.

My dad has the same thing. The doctor told my dad that a lot of times, once you get your blood pressure under control, the sugar levels will also level out. He has to watch what he eats, but it is not bad. He takes his blood sugar level and has found out that gum sends him through the roof. He can drink a soda, but then has to watch what he eats, as in sweets. He eats very few fruits and veggies. My mom cannot get him too, no matter what she fixes. He has pills to take if his sugar gets too high and very seldom has to take any anymore.

I can imagine how that is at this time I have to get ready for my hernia surgery and they say when I have it can't lift then on strict liquid diet for 6-8 weeks and my fiance had rotary cuff surgery so I know that we will need some help it helps to know there is some good people out there.

Believe me, you will not want to lift for a little while. Just make sure that you have someone come in to help with laundry. That was my big thing, besides caring for my son that is a wheelchair. I reach stick is a great thing to have around and slip on shoes so that you don't have to put on socks. I was only on liquid for 2 days and then bland diet for 2 days and then eat as tolerated. Good luck with it all.

What you have been thru in your life really surprises me at how strong a woman you can be with all the Health problems you have had to endure with your son. I am glad you live in an area where you can continue to get the Help, as many everywhere else seem to not. At least you have some solice with your health and your sons, and know that people are there to help. With my problems with being Diabetic, and now the migraine issue sometimes it seems like a lost cause for sure.

We take one day at a time is the way we handle things. We have found some great doctors. I do know how you feel when you say sometimes you feel it is a lost cause. I just keep hoping that we are doing for my son is improving his quality of life and not shortening it. It is really hard to know what to do at times.

My week has been awful. But I really like hearing about other people's weeks being good. That's a lot you have to deal with. I'm very glad to hear it worked out.

I had wondered how you were going to do all that with having surgery yourself along with your son. But glad to know you had help. How are you feeling? Hopefully you're doing better and the surgery was worth it. Not that you want to go through it but having to to get better but all in all, was it worth it? I've had so many myself and am glad to finally be past that - hopefully. My last surgery was my hysterectomy which hubby took care of me for the 6 weeks it took for me to get back on my feet again and that was back in '04 and we were in Arkansas where hubby was stationed. He was in the Army at the time.

We are doing well. The worst part is, I live with guys, who think you should heal right away. A guy thing, I think. I am so thankful for the friends and family that came in.

I was not aware that you were both having surgery or I would have said some specific prayers for you. I'm glad you're both improving! My week has gone as usual, good health and independence. I've been very blessed that way. My worst times are when I have to depend on others which luckily are very rare!

Wow, it must have been tough to have gone through surgery and also having a loved one go through one also. I'm glad both are well, welcome back! My week was pretty normal, nothing new or exciting happen.. just the same routine. I have never had to depend on a house full of people but I have had times when I had to depend on people because of my anxiety problems.

It was a little rough, but I was afraid to wait. I had a very bad galbladder attack and it lasted a week, I could not imagine trying to care for my son after he had surgery and be so sick.

Hey Thoroughrob, You must be a pretty brave soul having to take care of your son and now being sick yourself too.- But maybe, you also needed some rest and refection time. So I think you should enjoy the time of rest you got right now and breath easy having all those people showing their love by helping you. Recover well Thoroughrob! You truly deserve it.

My son's surgery had been scheduled for 3 months and to reschedule we would have had to wait a long time again. I was really sick, and couldn't risk being in the hospital at the same time he was. I am very grateful to the people that helped us through it.

I hope both you and your son have a speedy recovery. I know that can be frustrating when you are use to doing things on you own. My week has be emotionally draining. A lot different realizations I've had to come to terms with. It's a great thing that you have people to help you and your son through your recovery. =)

My week has actally been pretty relaxing. My work schedule is a little off this week, so I had some days off at the begining of the week and now I will be working through the weekend. Makes the weekend kinda crappy but I can't complain too much because I just enjoyed 4 days off in a row!!
