Is Eminem stealing hip hop from black people the way Elvis stole rock & roll?

Now I like Eminem as much as the next guy, but I can't help but wondering if blacks are letting him steal hip hop right from under their noses. I mean...I do believe it's happened once with Rock & Roll. Little Richard, Frankie Lymon, Chuck Berry, etc...Started rock & roll. Next thing you know...Elvis Presley mastered the genre, and all of sudden became the "King of Rock & Roll". Could Em be doing the same thing? Will black rappers become extinct? What say you?

I don't think Elvis stole Rock and Roll or that Eminem stole hip hop in any way. Every artist develops their own style based on their own listening styles Eminem himself merely merged the styles he liked an recreated them through his own raps and music that's not stealing in any way, essentially this is how different genres grow and expand even creating sub genres. Elvis was the same Rock and Roll may have been around but it was he who created his own style of rock and roll and it just so happens that many people liked both Elvis and Eminems style.

In regards to Eminem having the same style as older rappers then you could just say he was bringing an old style back to the forefront but still not stealing. Also with the fact you saying about Eminem stealing hip hop you may not be saying such things but your comments present such views in my mind. There is no fact that Elvis stole Rock and Roll as you can't steal a type of music you can adapt like I said before. I'm not saying that rock and roll didn't originate with Black musicians though but stealing an entire genre is nearly impossible as your songs are written to your own sub-style in the genre. I don't actually know many rock and roll musicians that exist in today's society at all.

No I don't their music to be Rock and Roll. They are in a rock genre but are not in the business of making rock and roll.

Stevieboi...There is a such thing as biting though. When I look back at some of the older rappers (from the 80s-90s) I realize Eminem actually has the same type of word play as some of them. Just like Elvis had the some the same vocals, and dance moves as the black rockers before him. I'm not saying Em stole hip hop YET...I'm just asking do you guys think it's possible. I think it's a fact that Elvis stole rock & roll though. Think about it. You can probably count on one finger how many black rockers you see nowadays, and black people are the original rockers..

How can you steal style? You can't "own" musical genres. That'd be like saying pizza hut stole pizza away from others.

A person steals a genre when the music industry is ran by white people, and they put a white artist who doesn't know much about the background of the genre (he/she just mimicks someone's style), and places him/her at the top of the entire genre. ie...Giving them more marketing & promotion, radio spins, video plays, and distributing them on a level that the originators of the genre never imagined. You did give a good answer though Wiggles. I had to think about my response before I responded.

I had a feeling that is what your response would be.It's not only run by white people.
If you look at the videos being played on MuchMusic, you will see that there are in fact black people singing rap songs- it isn't like there are only white rappers.
I think people are pretty much forgetting that there were even racial boundaries before- I don't associate skin color with certain music types (anymore), I've seen black rockers, black rappers, white rockers, white rappers, Asian.....

When I said it's run by white people I didn't mean the artists. There are actually more black rappers who are actually "in" the industry than any other race. I meant the major record label executives. Not the P Diddys, Jay Zs, and 50 cents, etc..I mean all of their bosses are white. So the music industry is basically run by white people. Jews to be exact. Now don't get me wrong...I'm far from a racist. I'm a black rapper in an all white band. But I have to also call a spade a spade. Nothing...NOTHING gets released on a major record label without the consent of a white man. That's what I meant when I said the industry is ran by white people. And, you are correct. There is a little bit of every race in every genre of music. But you must admit....Rock & Roll was invented by black people. And, you might still see black rockers nowadays, but nowhere near as many white rockers (even though the genre was created by black people). And this didn't happen to rock music until the record labels, and media named Elvis the "King of rock and roll". I'm just wondering will the same thing happen with hip hop and Eminem.

You can't steal a music genre...just can't. These days the genres are so blurred that it is sometimes difficult to decide which genre they really fall into. Elvis may have been dubbed the King and there is no doubt that he was great but that does not diminish the importance of the others.
Music is art and the creation of the individual...just can't be stolen. So much is left to personal opinion. I read somewhere that David Cassidy was more popular than the Beatles. In my opinion and for my ears, he was not. But for whoever wrote that article...he must of been.
I think Eminem just does his own unique thing just as he has been doing for years. I don't think you have to worry about black rappers becoming extinct unless all black people suddenly decide to stop rapping.
And then someone let the cool guy in who dragged the Jews into this discussion.

great question. I think he is not doing that at all. We i look back on hip hop it was a culture for inner city people. It was a prodominate latin and black culture however there was white kids heavy into hip hop. One of th greatest hip hop groups in my opinion is the Beastie Boys. They were also pioneers in the culture. If you also look at the hip hop movies you see a great deal of white people in them. Hiphop is not a color thing it's a culture that is open to all who share a struggle. Blondie was also big on the hip hop scene too. I dont think black rappers will ever be extinct, however some of the illest emcees are non-black like this kid s.o.b. and aesop rock and a host of other ill emcees.

Have you ever tried to make some beats and some lyrics and put up a song? Beside the fact that is hard as heal, even with music studies. Eminem is the first white rapper that made a name out of himself. Before him, there was vanilla ice :)).
Eminem is not appreciated because of the music, he raps better than any of the african-americans rappers and i think this is the reason anybody will have a problem with him.
