yes, do not over-think of something especially during the night. warm milk with honey has been effective to me whenever i feel insomniac. i never relied to pills that promises to put us immediately to sleep because we will eventually be dependent on taking them in order to rest. another is, while trying to finish your warm milk, try reading books or magazines, or do mathematics just to make things unique for you.

thats what my dad suggested, doing math because then your brain tires and you fall asleep. thanks for the suggestions.

Think about exercising and taking a bath before bed and this will get you tired to be able to fall alseep. I know some people go to the gym at night for this reason.
Me i take fuor tablespoons of benedryl at night while in bed and then i usually fall asleep with in an hour and it gets me to sleep through out the night and if i wake up i fall back asleep instead of staying up for hours. This does help so you could try it out if you can.
Enjoy your day.

I already experience it before but rarely have experience insomnia when my body and mind learn to relax well. I do try all the remedy and tricks but it never works for me. their are times that i feel so excited or worry about some things or over a person or about myself that even a little hours of sleep is like gold to me. But, still could not sleep and it really funny when i look at the mirror i get a soggy and dark circles, a sign of inability to sleep.
What i do is to avoid the person, the things that gives me worry or in case i could not avoid them i learn to let my mind forget their face or whatever remarks they tell to me. I learn to sleep well by reading a boring novels, boring movies, or maybe talking to a boring person it could makes you yawn and makes you feel sleepy. The problem if you could not find a boring person to talk with, then you just need to be content to try all the insomnia treatment until you get tired and finally you could find the best treatment which really suits to your needs.

I also suffer from insomnia. What I usually do is I engage myself on tiring activities at night. I made myself busy and do hands on activities. When I feel so tired, I tend to knock down on bed.
Give it a try. It might probably work for you.

my, my, you are so young but cannot sleep! i am almost half a century and i dont experience this much - not to have sleep. probably because of exhaustion and stress (though sometimes stress cannot put you to sleep).
when this happens to me, i read a book, or watch a movie in the television. they lull me to sleep. i dont like the idea of having pills or meds to put me into sleep. and i will never ever do that.

Hi MHerman. I also find it hard to sleep most of the time. And it's usually caused by having so many things in my mind. It's weird but my mind is usually active at night, I'm rarely a morning person so I'm usually active in the afternoon until night time. And even when it's time for sleep, my mind still thinks about so many things. What I usually do to remedy this is to meditate before sleeping. I allow myself to relax, and relax every muscle in my body, and try my best not to think about anything and just focus on my breathing. It really helps. After I feel very relaxed, I then proceed to lie down and sleep, making sure that I'm in a very comfortable position. Sometimes if I still find it hard to sleep, I put on lavender lotion (I use Johnson & Johnson's baby calming lotion). So far it's helped me.
You may want to follow my techniques. Yes you can also exercise but make sure you do it about 2 hours before going to sleep so that you can give your heart and the other muscles some time to relax. Also, when you can't sleep, don't force yourself. Just get up and do some breathing or go read a light book or magazine until you feel tired or relaxed.
Before when I worked at a call center, I had a graveyard shift and they gave us some tips and advice on how to go to sleep. One advice was to drink warm milk (which I think is very common). The other is to follow a routine before going to sleep. Like what we usually do before bedtime, such as wash our face, put on some moisturizer, etc. Our body would then be able to follow that routine and can understand that it's almost sleeping time.
Sleeping at a regular time also helps. Like when you sleep at 9:00, make sure that you always sleep at 9:00 so that your body clock will recognize the sleeping time. Also, don't sleep in. And depending on how tired or how strenuous your work is in the morning, try to avoid taking long naps.
Hope this helps!
