Can we afford to go shopping anymore?

I dont think I can for a while. Everything is going up. I used to pay a bag of bread flower $4. and it went up to $6. I mean this is ridiculous! Gas went up today from $1.12 to $1.38/litre (sorry cant figure out what the price would be in gallon) Municipal taxes went up, electricity went up, clothing is way up, even chocolate went up in price and so did coffee!!!!!! Fruits and vegetables went up too. They say the price of gas goes up, so does the food and everything that has to be transported. I dont even want to think about the price of beauty products. Imagine the price of a jar of cream now!!! Im fed up of having to scratch for every penny. Has prices gone up where you live also? What do you plan on doing to survive and make ends meet?

IF you are in the USA...just wait. It will get worse. Gas going up to $5 a gallon her soon...truckers and transporters won't be able to pay that price so they wills stop trucking/shipping which means products won't be going to stores as often...all stores, from grocery to electronics etc. What people don't realize...is that when gas goes up....product prices go up because the trucking industry is the back bone of this country. It comes to the country at the coast and is trucked/trained or other fuel wise shipped into the various states. Or if it produced in this country, it is again...trucked/trained to other parts of the country. Gas goes up, companys can't afford it...so they dont ship.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Well not only in your country but in mine too. They predict that the price of gas will be way up for this coming summer. As for transporting foods, well small stores will probably run out of supplies, but big stores like Walmart, Target, Dollarstore, they will keep going because they have the power and the money to do so. They will lower salaries, thats all and jack up their prices. Who will lose in all this, us in the middle of course!! Thanks for replying!!

You got that right! I dont' get why they don't lower prices in this recession. Common sense says to get them in the door they will buy and if it is affordable..they will buy more. But to raise the prices so no one buys...and they have to trash what isn't sold....we loose, they loose. Don't understand their thinking!

I dont get it either. I have stopped buying anything thats not necessary to my everyday life. No more clothes, no shoes, only food and cleaning products and stuff like toothpaste, toilet paper....stuff like that. So they're not making money off me. I only buy when its on sale and then I buy enough to last me until the next sale. Yes they throw stuff away but Im wondering if maybe they have some kind of insurance.....otherwise, it wouldnt make sense!!

hi there. everything's going up now except for my money. i cant find a job because i still have a lot of things to take care of! :( even the salary doesn't increase. i am trying to save my money, but sometimes there is nothing to save because we have to buy things that are very important like food and things for the baby and also pay the bills. i haven't even bought anythings for myself for a long time already. oh i have but it is on a lay away plan LOL now i dunno how i can come up with some money for the remaining balance hehehehe. well that is life, everyone has to struggle in order to survive. but i hope i can find a job soon after my exams. now that is the reason why i can find a job yet, too many things to take care of (papers, babysitting, household chores, etc)then i still have to review at night.

I just went grocery shopping and I think everything on my list has gone up at least a few cents. It adds up fast. I'm going to have to cut back on buying groceries. Thank heavens summer will be here in a few months and there will be fresh produce from the garden - if the weather cooperates. The last two years have not been the greatest for that. I guess we do what we have to do. I plan on growing as much as I can and not buying from the grocery store. Other than that, I will do without some things that are not necessary, spend more time making and making do and finding ways to make a little extra.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Ive noticed the same with my grocery list. I have to cut down on some things. Wait for bargains and I too hope the weather will cooperate so we can have a garden. Veggies are SO expensive lately. Im happy I bought in bulk last fall and still have some in my freezer. My plan is to grow as much as possible and freeze it all comes fall for the winter. I check the sales and when the prices are really down on an item, I'll buy as much as possible. Its not easy making ends meet. Now is the time to become very creative with our cooking. Its about the only shopping I do lately. Thanks!!

Prices do keep going up, and hubby cannot get a job and there is not much to apply for for me. I guess we will be eating a lot of beans. We are already pretty frugal. We just will have to see what turns up. I am on unemployment, but it will not last forever.

I think some of your inflation may be worse than ours. Did you say what you work at, and is it possible for others to work for them.

Sorry I didnt get back to you sooner. Im so sorry about this GG. Im also being very frugal. I cook, dont buy any clothes since I work from home. We dont go out that much. My only driving is to go to dad's to help him out. I'll try and have a garden this summer so I wont have to buy any veggies. Then I'll try to freeze as much as possible to last me all winter!! Now is the time to become very creative in our cooking!! I sure hope we would all stand up and tell our governments that we wont take this anymore. Both your government and mine are spending money like it grows in trees. This has to stop. Thanks for replying!!

Yes it is awful here today the gas prices are $3.19 a gallon!!! And tomorrow I am sure they will raise again!! The price of coffee has gone up here as well as all foods!! Fruits, Sugar, Meat, I mean everything!! I have been counting pennies for so long and I feel your pain I am sick of it too!! Every time I try to save a dollar it ends up I have to use it and I am so tired believe me!! Why do they keep jacking with the prices of gasoline? That really irritates me!! Do the gas and oil companies really think that raising the prices is going to help us? God if I only had some kind of control over that nonsense!!! It is hurting us not helping us in this teribble economy!! I can't get why on the way to work it is $3.09 a gallon and on the way home it is $3.19 a gallon and the next morning the price is up again!! Why can't they just leave it alone and at a lower much lower price? We can not afford this nonsense!!!! I feel your pain!! Well good luck out there, and Take Care.

Sorry I couldnt reply sooner. I know what you mean about that nonsense of prices going up and up all the time with gas. Companies are greedy and they'll keep jacking up the prices until we STAND UP and say we've had enough. But until we actually DO something about it, why should they stop? Im also counting pennies and being very creative in the kitchen to make the food last for as long as possible. I feel your pain also and lets hope that we all get through this very soon. Thanks for sharing!!

This is what we call inflation. And it is here to stay. Every year, prices of good and services that you consume will go up. In my country the inflation rate for last year was about 3-4%. There is a need for us to hedge against the rising inflation rate. One way is to invest our money that will generate higher yield compared to the inflation rate.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. You seem to understand how the market goes. The problem is no money to invest if prices keep going up. We need to feed ourselves before we can think of investing or saving money. For the first time in my life, Im afraid of the future. Thanks for sharing!

now, everything is going up,but the salary is never go up. However,we still can find that the numbers of people to go to supermaket are highly,no matter how rich or how poor are.maybe one day,we can't afford our daily materials. but,we should believe that the market have their own rules,it can adjust itself. and ,we can work hard to earn much money to buy what we need.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Yes everything is going up. Here some supermarkets might be closing because people will go to those with the lowest price. Loblaws is nearly shut down because nobody goes there anymore. Their prices are too high. Where I live, a Walmart is to sell fresh produce soon. Im thinking that nearly all the supermarket in the area might go under then. I wish my salary would go up when everything else does but unfortunately, it went down!! Thank you!!
