Travel with your house.

What if we can travel with our own home, just like the movie "Up"? That would be so convenient.. you wouldn't have to worry about packing and suitcases only how to steer with balloons. If it were possible, would you like to take your whole house with you on your travels?

hi lore, Hahaha! That's so funny! I would love to go to Greece, Italy or maybe an African Safari with my whole house with me. The movie "Up" was so unique and the story was so special, it made me think of the same too.

I haven't seen the movie but I wonder about the convenience of having to steer a big ol' building with balloons through airspace traffic. I don't know, but packing a suitcase seems so much easier than maneuvering a house around, and sometimes I travel to get away from the house! Boy, that gives new meaning to 'homebound', doesn't it?

That's true, a suit case might be easier considering all the costs. And it sure would give a new meaning to home bound!

I live in a bungalow that would be far too big to carry around with me. If I had enough money I would keep my home and buy a camper van. It would have beds for 4 people, a table, a tiny kitchen, a little shower and windows to look out of. I would be able to drive it in my home country and in other European countries. I haven't yet seen the movie called "Up". If I could carry my own home it would be easier because my disabled son would always have downstairs accommodation.

Taking your home with you would be quite an experience. It would be like taking a vacation and never leaving the comfort of your home at the same time. It would certainly solve a lot of dilemmas about what to put in the suitcase because you wouldn't need one.

Now there's an idea! I must confess I haven't seen the movie. I wonder how that sort of thing would work on a practical level. Would something like a house be permitted in our air-spaces? Wouldn't that cause problems? Would the owners need to rappel themselves down on ropes or by other means or land the house, but then there's the problem of enough suitable land space that the owners won't mind one using & electricity generation & running water supply... it all makes my poor head spin! It sounds convenient, but expensive & terrible if everyone were to do it. I'd be scared of being mistaken for a weather balloon & being shot down by some farmer accidentally or maybe worse! And would my insurance cover me if it all went pear-shaped? Come to think of it, it could be possible. We could generate our own electricity, which is very, very easy to do when one is up that high. We could also store enough water for the journey & make provisions to collect more when we're up there. Airspace & parking issues could be resolved by designation & government consent, but I don't think that would work in the USA or even down here. Hmmm...

No, I don't think it would be permitted in our air spaces. Some of the problems would include loose objects falling from the houses and causing damages to other, if the steerer has any professional experience in flying that thing, how much it would cost for helium and the balloons, etc. etc. And no, there wouldn't be electricity nor running water. Your insurance might start covering if a lot more people started to do it. It would be tremendously expensive to make it an actuality... so that is probably why we haven't seen any houses in the sky. But if all of those questions had solutions to them, it would be an experience.. but I don't know if it'd be worth it.

We host volunteer holidaymakers and there are many who arrive with their own motorhomes or trucks to live in whilst they're with us. Some are actually better appointed than my house! But my favourites are the home converted vans and trucks, where people have made use of every little nook and cranny for living space and storage. I'm not a greatly keen traveller, but if I were travelling this style I would be more willing. It's not quite the same as using balloons to take the house, but it's on the same lines

I would love to travel like that. I enjoyed the movie "Up" so much and it was such a grand adventure. I would like that too. But traveling with all your stuff and all your favorite rooms and all. That would be nice. I think bad storms would get hairy and we might have to land for a while at some points.

I would love that, but not through balloons of course, for which in the movie the balloons ran out of air, so when all of it pops out, you and your house will come to an end. Hehehe, but the concept is great on travelling the world.

Oh gosh not only would it be hilarious for me but would have been so convenient. I am such a stable person and I do not like moving at all. In fact I don't even like packing for vacations because then I have to come back and un-pack! That is the worst part about packing is the the un-packing for me. As I rather leave everything in the suitcase as oppose to sorting and returning them to where they belong. So to move would be so hectic and I would go bonkers with all the re-organizing not to mention get use to the new place. So yes I would enjoy picking it all up and placing it down with out having to lift a finger with re-organizing again. lol!

Hi Lore, Mobile home is not a new idea. Some people had designed or converted buses into virtual residence with all the amenities of home: TV, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, etc. It is really a very tempting arrangement for those who long to be on another place most of the time. Boats too had also their own version of a mobile home. I would prefer to have an amphibian model where I can travel by land or by water on the mobile home on the road. If I have the means, I would definitely own one.

This is so true! Packing is never easy, especially when you have kids to tag along! Usually the suitcase is already packed w/ baby things and you are still unsure if you have everything w/ you. So if you can bring your house along w/ you or you can have a trailer house just like in the US, that'll be great!

yeah! i love this idea! and i would go to and explore south america, as well. How convenient would it be if you can bring your own house with you while traveling. I guess, we need some magic!

Travel with our own house, is fully thrilling. We place it on a large vehicle career, or we will go on the bus house. It is very happy.
