Modern times have made things obsolete or fading now.
Before, the practice were printed pictures in album, but now there's facebook.
Before, there were instamatic cameras but now they are gone, but instead Digicams are being used.
Before , we send telegrams to send our emergency messages . but now we could simply text to have them conveyed immediately.
Actually, there are plenty of those things, but my memory is already not that sharp , but i know if i think think back deeply, i could remember them.
Perhaps you can?

I remember those big cellular phones with the little antennae sticking out. I remember back then beepers were such a big thing. I remember how popular a Walkman were, Oh I miss those. My first cassette was the Dirty Dancing cassette, and my last was the Spice Girls. Then I remember how CD players replaced them.
I remember VHS and then I remember how at first I hated DVDs because I didn't want to change. A part of me just wants to hold on to the past but sooner or later I started using the DVD players again. I remember typewriters and how much it made me angry every time I messed up because that would mean throwing a paper and starting all over again.
I remember SuperNintendo and getting excited every time I played Mortal Kombat.
What I really remembered most was the shows like Save by the Bell, Blossom, Beverly Hills 90210, Married with Children and etcetera.
Those were all way back but sometimes I feel like it was just yesterday.

We feel happy reminiscing using those things . They somehow make us proud that "look at us now".

Many things or say tools have been replaced by modern ones. They are gone, even disappear. As the technology develops, we get more new things and lose the old ones which are called out of time. But those old things we used to use have been left in the old time, for example, the Instamatic, the printed photos, the hand-written mails. Maybe they are not so convenient as the developed modern methods, but they are more worth cherishing. We human beings are changing too. We used to walk a long long way to visit a friend to show that we care about them, but not now. Now we may just send a message or make a call through the phone to say hello. It's more convenient but not so rich in affection.
How to say about all this? Sometimes I prefer the old things. Because they are not easy to do, thus, they are much dearer, they are more worthy of our cherishing.

Yes, that's true. Those old things that we do before as compared to those instant ones of today have more of personal touch.
But because we want everything to be fast, we overlook that the personal touch is already gone.

hi simplyd,
Before I was begging my parents to buy us a VHS... LOL because I saw all my neighbor playing movies with it but my parents said that it was expensive. Now I could own a dvd player for as low as Php 1,000 or $22. Disposable cameras from Digicams. Beeper to text messaging. Oh.. brick game to PSP. A lot of things have changed and it is getting better and better although I must say that I missed some of simple gadgets and toys such as family computer and friends only exist on real life and not on virtual online network sites.

Yes, that VHS. We even have 2 of that, one - my husband bought and the other one, won in a raffle, but it's already in the stockroom now. Oh those new ones now, they changed the old models and keep getting nicer. But they entail lots of money to buy though.

agree! many things have really change, some made our life easier but there are some that in one way or another has negative effects to people. take for example, the way children play games. Before, outdoor games are more popular which is great because it improves social kids of children and encourages physical activities for a better health. But now, PSPs, XBOX and other game consoles are so prevalent that it limits children's active lifestyle. we should encourage children to play more outdoor games! :)

Yes, those PSPs and computer games does not make our children healthy because it has no physical exertion on their part, which is important for growing children . Little do our children know that those games outside is more enjoyable because they interact with all their playmates.
