My little sister got her tax return today and called me to find out if I would go with her to Wal-Mart so that she could get a laptop. Well, I had a few things that I needed to get for myself and for the kids. I also wanted to get a birthday present for my friend's daughter (who will be turning 3 next week). So as we were browsing the toy department I found the gift for Star. It was a doll set that is normally $70 marked down to $12. Then I also found some Littlest Pet shop vehicles that I know my nieces will love for $5 (normally $15). Those are going to be their birthday presents. Has anyone else stumbled onto some great deals lately?

I was getting ready to go to the grocery store to get a few things yesterday, and I happened to see a Winn-Dixie sale paper on the kitchen table, so I decided to sit down and see what was in it. There were some really good deals in there, so I decided to go shopping there. I ended up getting almost $60 worth of stuff for only $38. Needless to say, I was pretty well pleased...

I loved it when we had Winn-Dixie in our area because their prices seemed to always be better than the competitors. Now, we are pretty much limited to Kroger and Wal-Mart Neighborhood grocery in our area. I tend to shop at Kroger because both of the Wal-Mart grocery stores are on the other side of town from where we live.

I love books. One time, I was having dinner at the mall, and because I was so stuffed, I decided to walk around. I went to a favorite bookstore, and saw the saleslady opening boxes and boxes of hardbound books on sale. At 99 PHP (Less than 2 USD) each! What a steal! Here are some of the books I bought. They may be old, but, I haven't read them yet.

Now, I can never find those kinds of prices at book stores, but with yard sales people just want to get things out of their house.

I too am a reader. I also love to go to a lot of yard sales during the summers and when I find titles that I would like to read, I will pick them up in a hurry. I especially love it when people are selling their old books for $.25 because I can get a lot of reading material for very little money.

Wow, that's great. There are lots of book sale shops here and they have a lot of good deals. But, $.25? That's a steal!

I Love the Clearance aisles in stores, and even in some of the major department stores. I have found some great bargains from time to time for gifts, and even for me from time to time as well. I can remember getting a blouse once I loved from the minute I first seen it. It was priced at $65 because of the Brand at Macys. I continued to want that blouse but was never going to pay that price. Low and behold by waiting, I was able to find that same blouse on clearance in my size still a couple months later for $5. I was very Happy indeed.

That is one of the greatest things in the world for me. I honestly very rarely buy anything for myself that didn't come off of a clearance rack. The reason for that is that I have a very hard time justifying the price of things that are expected when they are not on clearance.

Wow, you got some good deals. I haven't really been shopping lately as I have been sick, but I have to pick up a few things and have found some good deals in the sales flyers.

I'm sorry to hear that you've not been well. I've actually been quite impressed with some of the deals that I've seen in the fliers as well, but I've not bought anything else. We were at Best Buy today and they have a point and shoot camera on sale this week for $100 that is a really good camera, I told my husband that I would be thrilled to get that for my birthday next month.

actually yesi have. we were out browsing on saturday and we foud a really nice dress at a clothing store chain here in canada called winners. both my daughters are graduating this year - one from grade 8 and one from highschool. this dress would be perfect for my grade 8 daughter and it was only $34! not bad for a really nice dress!

That is a really good dress for a ladies or juniors sized dress. That is actually one thing that bothers me about my daughter growing up because I know that soon it is going to cost more to buy clothes for her.

I was naughty today at work. I found some t-shirts marked down to $1.40 that had a "dear santa..." theme to them x 3 (bought them nearly 2 sizes too big so they last thru next winter), pair of boys dress boots for $3.xx, & some mary jane flats for $7 for my daughter + my employee disc + the 2 promotions I had it was under $4 in the end. I was debating on the shoes for my Daughter but she can't tie her shoes and has other learning issues I just figure that's the least of her worries and she'll get it in time we all do KWIM? So I always try to find shoes ahead of time that don't require tying & a deal.

Hey, you really can't beat those kinds of deals. I loved it when my sister was working in one of the local consignment stores because she would let me know when they were having big sales and she would make the purchase for me after I'd left the store so that I would be able to have her employee discount as well. I bought some birthday and Christmas gifts for my kids and nieces that way last year and no one knew that the gifts were from a consignment store.

It's always nice to have good connections Doran! I wish I had connections at a thrift store so I can get first dibs on yarn when they get it in. Not that I don't have a good size collection of it as it is... but sometimes when you find a deal but it doesn't go with anything or you don't know what to make with it but snag it anyhow because of the price.
@dorannmwin (36392)

Well, I've never had that kind of thing happen with yarn. However, I will admit that I have a really hard time passing up an irresistable bargain. That said, I've ended up with things that I didn't need quite a few times in my life.

You are definitely very right. I would have done the same thing that you did, but we really didn't have the money to be able to do that last year. This year, I hope that it will be a different story because I'm trying to save as much of the money that I'm making online to be able to do our Christmas and birthday shopping without having to touch the money that we need for required household expenses.

you are lucky enough that u got such deals...my experience with sale items is that those things are from older stock or inferior quality..so i never found anything that i can sumble upon...instead i have to think twice, thrice...before purchasing things which are cheaper as compared t hey normally are...

These things were items that were basically overstock that was left over from Christmas. That is the reason that early in the year a savvy shopper is able to find great deals on toys and such. The quality is still there, but they probably won't be the big "hit" toys the following year. Oh well, my children have never complained about something like that.

Yeah, I paid $60 for a DS Lite on E-bay. I wasn't yet sure what I wanted to do with it.. my twins have original DS's.. and we sort of wanted to give one of them the DS Lite and give their original to our 4 year old.. but I also wanted to save the DS Lite for a holiday. Well Easter isn't a big enough holiday for a DS Lite, but my 4 year old's birthday is in June.. I was still debating whether or not to save the DS Lite until then and just give it to him.. but then yesterday when one of the twins was acting up hubby thought it would be a nice punishment to tell him to give his DS to the 4 year old.. and then followed that up by telling him that if he can behave he can earn himself the DS Lite. So then I had to yell at hubby because he had to go and spill the beans that we had the DS Lite and now I can't save it for a holiday!

That is a really good bargain on the DS Lite. Kathryn saved up all of her birthday and Christmas money this past year so that she would be able to get one and ended up having to spend $100 on a used one. But still, she was happy so that all made it worth it to me.

Those are great deals! I have not done very much shopping lately except for groceries and household goods. I did get my hair done in February. I got a cut, color and high lights for $75. Normally it would have cost about $120 but they had a special for Super Bowl Sunday. That is my bargains lately.

I'm glad to know that I am not the only person in the world that will do this from time to time. I didn't have the opportunity to do it last year because we were really tight financially. However, if I have the finances to do it, it is certainly something that I will do.

I am always looking for bargains and will buy things for future gifts like you do too. Whenever I am out in a new area we always look for local thrift stores or a Goodwill. I love to browse and see what they have - you never know what you will end up with. Last week was super double at Harris Teeter where they doubled coupons up to 1.98 each. I save up my larger amounts for this and then go shopping. I tend to pick up a lot of bigger ticket items like cold medicines, hair dyes, and detergents. I managed to even get some items for free! Gotta love that.

Just like I told Gifts just before, you really can't beat free. I certainly wish that we had stores around here that would do super double or triple coupon times, but I haven't seen one of those around here for a very, very long time. However, Kroger does have coupons that can be loaded onto your Kroger Plus card and a lot of times there are paper copies of those same coupons and those can both be applied together and that does end up saving a lot of money.

My latest bargain brag: I had that $10 coupon for JC Penney in my purse - and I used it just the other day! I've been buying stuff for everyone else lately (and stuff for our move) so I said I was going to use this coupon for myself. Well, I went to the kids shoe section there (you know, the mom in me always wants to look for the kids stuff just in case there are any good deals) - and I saw a clearance shelf. They had these $60 khaki boots that fit me (yes, I can were kids shoes if they're the right style) - and they were on clearance for $11.97. So with that 10 dollar coupon, I only had to pay 1.97 plus tax!!

Well, I now know that you have little feet. There would be no chance in this world that I would ever be able to stuff my feet that are the size of the wicked stepsister's feet in Cinderella into a pair of kids sized shoes. Despite that, you really were able to find and awesome deal.

How is it that you found that awesome deal!! That is crazy sounding :) JEALOUS of you!! at Harris Teeter they have probably one of the best Meal Deal's going on right now. But a Marie Callendar frozen bake thing and get a box of Harris Teeter brand sundae cones, a bag of their frozen vegetables, and a box of their "Texas Toast" for FREE!! So I spent 6.89 for the frozen bake meal and got 3 more items that will last a couple more times....at Harris Teeter!! Crazy expensive place but man when they have a deal it is a good deal I tell ya!!

my wife loves bargain too. before she buys something for gifts she make sure it was cheap but has great quality. so she always ends up at the bargain section, or make sure she looks around during sales. i find it a good way to shop. she always start christmas shopping around september so she wont just buy a gift because she needs to buy but buy something that is reasonable.

I actually don't have a set time that I start my Christmas and birthday shopping for the year. Instead, I start my shopping when I see something that is going to make the perfect gift for the right kind of price. In some cases that has meant that I will start my shopping for the following year the day after Christmas while in other situations I haven't bought the first gift until some time in November.

hi dora, am happy for you. those kids would really have their biggest smiles when they open their presents. good you are having good bargain lately. its very different from here. seems prices are going up, especially the fresh food produce. will site some example: onions used to cost Php45 to Php60 a kilo, now it is Php200. other vegetables too. cooking oil (370 ml) costs Php24 but now it is Php39. we were told this is due to the weather and the infestation of rats and caterpillars. vegetables suffered due to frost around december and then there was flooding in different farming areas. hope everything gets back to a much normal price. ann

That has been the case around here with produce as well. The harsh winter that we've just been through played heck on tomatos and also on some of the fruits. It really stinks too because I love eating a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.

You made some great deals. I have not been so lucky. I have not filed my taxes yet, but will be on Monday. My husband's boss was late getting these forms out. I cannot wait to get my return so I can start getting things for the house for our remodeling projects. Our house needs to be painted badly and I want to get thingws for my garden.

We were in that group of people that had our taxes in the queue before they started accepting itemized returns this year. My husband and I typically try to get our return back by the middle of February so that we can take advantage of a lot of the sales, but we were two weeks late this year because of the late changes to the tax code. I probably missed out on some things that I would have liked to have had, but it won't kill me.
