Myself, i am not convinced by these tablets. Touch screen is too fidely to really use effectively for extended periods of time. Plus they are fragile. My netbook costed £200, and has a 8hr battery like, and windows, meaning i can use word etc on it. For a tablet, to effectively be able to touch type in the same way, you need to carry around a keyboard with you, and a stand. I dont really see the point of these tablets myself, but then thats just me. If you are unsure between the two, there is soon going to be a tablet/netbook. It has a touch screen, and you can open it up, and flip the screen round to use as a notebook! Dunno what it was called, or when it is coming out

yeah me too think that ninja... in between tabletPC and notebook.. notebook is the best option mainly reason u cleared that and the main thing windows operating system is best for thing like that...and because main reason all uses windows .. and files mainly files is made according to windows and copatible for it... like all makes itl's resume in msoffice2007 .. is it compatible with others? answer is no.. so many things like that exists.. so windows with notebook is best option i think.. but it mainly depends on intrests and features ....

To above, there actually is a difference.
A netbook is a laptop that is smaller, and IT DOES NOT HAVE A CD DRIVE! So you cannot install programs the normal way, only via downloads, or by buying an external cd drive (or there is some way or installing it on another pc, transfering to a hard drive, then sticking on notebook, but its complicated).
A laptop is much bigger, and has a cd drive.
Advantages of either one:
Notebook: Cheaper, lighter, and with a better battery life (due to using less power)
Disadvantages: Slower to run tasks, often have smaller processors, smaller screens, expensive spec for spec. Hasnt got CD drive
Laptop: Adv: Higher spec, cheaper spec for spec, has CD drive, has bigger screen
Dis: Heavy, low battery life
If you want to game or watch videos on your laptop, get a laptop. If you want to use microsoft office, and browse the web, get a notebook.

yes my friend there is practically no big difference between the two. but yes advantages and disadvantages are on use value. if you are a user who will be using his computer most of the time at home, then i guess notebook is not the best option. it is costly and the main reason you are paying that extra amount is because of the portability reason. if you are not going to use it, why to pay for that then. desktop are easy to buy and easy to repair.

A laptop that is a desktop replacement might have a screen of 15 to 17 inches. It might run with Windows 7 Home Professional. It would have a CD drive. It might cost £400 to £700 depending on its specification.
A laptop that is designed for life on the road might have a screen of 13 to 14 inches. It could also run on Windows 7 Professional. It might not have a CD drive to save on weight. It might cost £300 to £600.
A notebook would have a screen of 8 to 12 inches, commonly 10 inches. It might have Windows 7 Starter and just GB of memory. It would not have a CD drive. It would be great for carrying around on the move. It would be likely to cost £200 to £350.
A laptop would be great because it has a keyboard large enough for typing. Using a CD is possible. The disadvantage is is costs a lot. A notebook is small and light to carry. The disadvantage is no CD drive.

So all that is being said is there is a major difference in the two computers denoted by the nomenclature. Laptop comes with a CD drive and notebook does not. The cost factor naturally weighs in favor of notebook. It is light and gives a longer battery support. But the limitations in notebook are too many. To begin with, it cannot support larger size OS, as you have explained. It comes with smaller screen. Both these will limit the usefulness to a large extent. I hope I am right in making such observation.

Hi heman,
There's really no difference between the two. Its just a matter of nomenclature. It is called a laptop for it can be set on ones lap while operating on the move. It is also a notebook for it looks like one, it can be opened like a book and written or read like one.
Its inherent advantage is its portability. Modern notebooks carry the same capability as their deskbound counterparts plus its facility to be moved around with ease. Its weakness is in the delicate mechanism and has no ready replacement parts if one goes wrong. Once a laptop goes, it goes to the bin for good.
