Vampires are NOT real. They are completely fictional and the idea was popularised by the book "Dracula" written by the Irish writer, Bram Stoker and published in 1897.
The idea of blood-sucking beings in mythology and folklore is very old and Stoker clearly based his novel on folklore of the Balkan countries and took the name of Dracula from the family name of "Vlad the Impaler", a mediaeval Romanian king.
Dracula was not the first 'vampire' novel. Sheridan le Fanu's novel "Camilla" was published some 25 year earlier and there have been other literary references.

You can read Dracula online here: http://www.literature.org/authors/stoker-bram/dracula/
and you can read Sheridan leFanu's Carmilla (note: not Camilla ... that's a different book entirely!) here: http://www.sff.net/people/DoyleMacdonald/l_carmil.htm

Vampires aren't really real, I think they are based on the people who had a disease that had similar characteristics to vampires... the pale skin, allergic to the sun... although sometimes it would be nice for them to be real since they look nice and fancy- but still they kill people. They are just to make movies interesting.

It is a legend. Does not exist really. Human imagination,is what has created this story. On the other hand, some want to believe in something and romanticize these stories. Think it's more interesting to believe in vampires than being mortal humans without special powers.
