One very helpful way I do to get rid of the tension is to sit down and practise "yoga meditation". That calms down the mind, and as one continues to stay mindful of the sensations in the mind and the body, the tension disturbing the mind gradually disappears. I have been practising meditation for some years now, and find it very helpful for mental as well as physical health.

That would depend on whether you are simply feeling a little down or you actually are suffering from clinical depression.
if it is the first option then the answer would be different for everyone depending on what relaxes them and makes them happy, be this meeting up with friends, veggin out in front of the telly or nibbling on some chocolate. It's probably best not to reach for the prozac every time something goes a little awry.
ON the toher hand if you are talking about actual clinical depression then it may be best to visit a doctor or psychiatrist to see if anything can be done. alternatively you may want to visit a holistic medicine practitioner to see if there are any natural remedies for easing the causes and symptoms of depression.
