some nurses works on the hospital without just compensation just to earn experiences and credentials.the worst part is, some hospitals also make them PAY to WORK for their institution.plus, they get to encounter toxic patients and even watchers, as well as, degradation from some proud and boastful physicians.i just brought this up because it was a recent issue on the news about a month ago here in our country.is this really for real?

Hi. erncom11. Welcome to myLot! I know that when I was in labor, two young ladies watched me as I was having my baby. They were from the college and they were into training. I saw their uniform and badge. At first I felt uncomfortable with them being there, but then I was able to relax because they were so kind to me, making me feel at ease and relieved. I was very scared because I was in labor. I am not sure about nurses that are not being compensated at all. I am sure that this is taking place in this country, but I am not familiar with this.

Its true sir erncom11.
I would attest to that, I've been a volunteer nurse from May of 20010 till present on a Government Hospital here in our city. I thought it was a normal practice for a newly registered nurse to undergo the level of "volunteer nurse" or nurse trainee that's why i immediately joined the certain institution.
according to some "the masters of the wards are the staff nurses and their slaves are the volunteer nurses.
We volunteers do all the task from the menial to the most complicated. They initially assisted us, but eventually they left us to fend for ourselves.
Staff nurses would only go to the bedside of the patient in cases of cardiac arrest or other extreme situations.
But on the brighter side at-least I've gained the necessary experiences i needed to become a competent nurse, although it was exhausting i guess the experience was all worth it.

It is very real. However, not everyone wants to go out of the country that is why they wanted to do a volunteer work. They volunteered hoping that if the facility likes their performance, they might be hired and become a regular employee.
The sad thing here in the Philippines is, even you volunteered for 2 years already, things remain the same. You do not get paid for the work you do. You are working just like the other employees but you do not get anything. Even if you become a part of the institution, the pay is just so low that is why I can't blame other nurses to aspire to be outside of the country because the compensation is well.
I hope that someone who has the authority does something with this problem.
