I don't need to store food, learn how to grow food, or bother with preparation..

So what are your plans in case of disaster? Are you the type that prepares for the worst, but hopes for the best? Do you have a room, or corner of your basement dedicated to the storage of 6 months to a year of food and essentials? Or are you more the "72 hour kit" type, keeping enough supplies for temporary survival while you either plan your exit from the disaster area, or the arrival of disaster recovery teams?
Or are you the hardcore type who grows your own garden, not just for the pleasure of eating fresh vegetables you cultivated yourself (which I admit is a great experience). Is your garden a quarter acre or more, taking up large parts of your daily routine from pre-spring preparation to the last jar of food put up and stored?
But apparently there is a 3 category of emergency preparation... one that feels they are every bit as ready for disaster as the others, but doesn't see any reason to go through all the work.

Yeah, the victims who have it the worst are those with special needs. Not only do most of our emergency response plans cover the most common needs, but it's harder for you to find emergency supplies that fit your needs.

When my parents moved our family from Utah to Florida, we moved from a split level with a basement to a much smaller ranch without one. Most of our food storage at the time was square shaped cans of various grains. They filled the nooks and crannies of our new house. Under the beds, in the closets, pretty much anywhere we could stick them.
I know space is tight in most people's houses, but where there is motivation, there is space to find.

Well, I have a very small apartment but I do always have food in the cupboards that would last a while and I do always have extra jugs of water. There really is not room to stock up all that much. As for growing a garden, we are not allowed to have a garden on the property so that option is out. I do have duct tape though.

I would love to grow a garden. I have in the past and did pretty well. But how to do this when I work? My son works and we do not have not one dime extra to spend on supplies?
We do have meat in the freezer, and plan on buying a generator. We live where ice storms happen and are without electricity at least once a winter so a generator is important. I see the need, a great need for this. But so far we have not been able to get it accomplished.
Any suggestions?
