It's a snake pit!

The roomie's DVD drive in her computer was dying and she called our geek friend, who called in for repair to replace it.
After playing "musical" lies with the first repair person, we finally got the repaired scheduled with the guy "they call when they drop the ball" according to his own words.
Now, because the roomie has 8, yes count them, EIGHT! external drives hooked up to her computer she decided to take them off so it didn't look "funny" to the guy.
He turned out to be totally COOL, loved the cats, spent 5 minutes fixing the computer and another 10 petting cats!
None the less, we still had to re-attach all those external drives so she could get to her information.
Mind you, 1 of the drives is there just to replace 3 of the older, smaller drives and none of them is full... well, yet...
Still, we spent well over an hour trying to figure out the drives/wires/hubs on Friday. And at that we couldn't FIND 2 of the power cords to 2 of the drives.
So, today, we got back to work on them. We found cords, but then we couldn't get power to all the drives. A call to the geek just confirmed that we probably didn't have the right cords so we moved more of them.
Finally, we got all the drives working, but then the speaker wasn't getting power. So the roomie went to her "happy wire box" and we found one that worked, except... it was only about 10 inches long! So we had to go buy an extension cord to connect it!
But, we finally have her computer all connected again!
Still, its a snake pit of wires in there! (and that's AFTER I got most of them tied up!)
Does your computer have a "snake pit"?

THe room where I have my computer (those old ones that are BIIIIG) lots somewhat like what you tell. I don´t have external drives but nevertheless I have more than my share of wires around my feet. Sometimes I kick without meaning to, and the whole rhing gets disconected including a lamp. It´s difficult to connect some of those wires in the dark.

Yup! I bet those wires were devised by 5 year olds. Last week, a 5 year old nephew gave me my first cell phone lesson

There are a bunch of wires behind my computer. I can't keep them all straight. There is a wire for the printer, computer, keyboard. I also have a light plugged in and my phone. There are so many, when I had to get a new mouse, I got a wireless one, because I didn't want another cord. There are also a lot behind my TV. I have a stereo, tape player, cd player, dvd/vcr player plugged in there also.
If I ever have to replace anything it will take me forever to figure out which one goes where.

Mine isn't that bad,it's mostly the USB peripherals that are the main tangle of wiring...it had a good sized hard drive built in,but I bought one of those 1Tb backup drives for music and such..but I don't enjoy going back there to do all the connecting and unconnecting when something needs doing...I'm just in the process of changing internet provider,so it's Buh-bye to one hookup box in the next week or so and Hello to a new one that's gonna be a whole lot faster

that's what's with the hubs - well, that and NO computer has enough outlets for all those!
One hub has 7 and the other 6, and I think there are still 2 openings, but at least one isn't working that well, which is why it is open! maybe one of those USB lights...

I have hated the looks of all the wires behind my computer desk for years. Every wire that is the is connected to something that is needed for the computer. All we have is the tower, monitor, fax/printer/scanner, wireless mouse and keypad(but you still need an electrical thingie)1 speaker(which is hooked to a woofer thingie(which has a lot of wires).....all in all it looks quite dangerous behind there.
I have a laptop now that I use all the time on my dining room table.....and NOW, I hate the 1 electrical cord that is needed to run it. LOL

My husband's has a bit of a snake pit, that the CAT likes to attempt to re-wire when he's bored. Drives hubby nuts. I, on the other hand, have a laptop, with one external drive that I keep iny computer bag when I'm not using it.

Yep, can't live without them. And I really understand WHY those darn things are long, but all these are crammed in a cabinet so those darn wires and all those power cords are in this small space! and they all have some form of a "power brick" that means they don't want to let other plugs next to them - we have 3 surge protectors in there too!

Crapola!! That's A LOT of stuff connected to a computer! How in the world does she find all of what she needs? No, I don't have anything close to that hooked up to my computer.... nor would I! OMG! I'd be so lost!! My hubby has a few extra things connected to his computer but not me. No way. lol

Well, I don't have all the extra external drives, but I have a lot of wires hooked up to my computer....and I have a drawer that I keep all kinds of extra wires. It would really be nice if one wire controlled everything...lol. That way you wouldn't end up with a bazillion wires going every which way (snake pit...electricians convention....lol)

time to upgrade to the largest drive.... 8 is a little extreme and would be very confusing as to what is on each drive... atleast I would think...
