By now, the winners are predictable and most people are getting bored with award shows. So why watch the Oscars? For me, its the fashion and the hope for upsets and memorable moments (like when Roberto Benigni won in 1998 for "Life is Beautiful" and walked all over the seats in the auditorium).
Last night's show had its entertaining moments, but I know a lot of talk is revolving around the "young, hip" co-hosts. I don't know, but it seemed like James Franco was tired or so over the Hollywood hype. And Anne Hathaway seemed to try to over compensate for her co-host's non-enthusiasm. I'm not going to blame them for some of the lousy and predictable lines because they did not write the script, but there were times I cringed for them when they were on stage.
Did you watch? If so, what is your opinion? Do you have a favorite moment?

I hadn't seen any of the movies since I don't go to movies much but I heard a lot about them and had seen many trailers. As far as the Awards show goes, I liked the way Anne Hathaway skewered Hugh Jackman in her song; she really is a very good singer. Most of the presenters were fairly dull. Some of the movie parts shown in the back of the stage area were good as was the way the orchestra moved out onto the stage that one time.

I haven't seen any of the movies either (which is usual for me, lol). I did like how they utilized the stage and the orchestra was nice.
Thanks for responding

My favorite moment at the Oscar/Academy Awards 2011 was when Kirk Douglas presenting the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. He was truly funny. I don't know if he wrote the script himself or he had someone else did it for him but either way he was really funny and was the highlight of the whole show.

I will always watch the Oscars. I watch to see who wins. I enjoy trying to guess who will win. This year was far easier than others. I was waiting to see Colin win. I have been a fan for years. i Knew he wouldn't win last year so to see he got another chance this year was fitting. Did I have a favorite moment? Yes. Melissa Leo's face when she heard her name was classic Deer in the headlights !And her F bomb was refreshing. But case in point. If Billy crystal or Jon Stewart, or Whoopi were hosting , F bomb would have been a running gag for the rest of night. Anne and James just stayed with the sd script. I think Anne could host all by herself!James seemed to not care, either to be nominated nor be hosting the Oscars. I heard later he told an interviewer he wasn't worried nor excited to host. " It is just one night" he said. So that's what we got. I think the attempt to be hip enough for the younger crowd backfired. the Oscars are for a large amount of people , not ages from 18-49!

I always enjoy when they do their memories and award actors for memorable acting down through the years. I have to say that when Kirk Douglas came on to announce the one award and he kept heeing and hawing and not reading the award- that was pretty good entertainment. He never stopped. Ofcourse I never thought Tony Curtis would stop and he........yep.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Oscars. Being a fellow countryman, there is always some buzz around the Australians who have been nominated. And how could I possibly pass up the opportunity to watch memorable moments such as Kirk Douglas bagging out Hugh Jackman?
I was impressed with James Franco's deadpan take on the hosting gig; and Anne Hathaway did, as always, look absolutely stunning and came across as being a natural. As far as I'm concerned, they complemented one another and deserve to be invited back as hosts of the 2012 ceremony.
I am interested in the opening number, the songs, the general awards ceremony, and the 'in memorium' segment. But I am not a particular fan of the fashion, which often seems overtly controversial and garrish. And call me cynical, but I don't really care who designed Nicole Kidman's earrings.
Predictable or not, I will be a lifelong fan of the Academy Awards. I may never win one; however, I still get one night per year in which to join the Hollywood elite.

I watch all the award shows having to do with TV shows or movies: Oscar, Emmys (not daytime), SAG...
I like to see who comes with who and what they're wearing, but mainly I like to see the look on a winner's face and listen to the speeches. This year didn't disappoint. Melissa Leo was her usual crass self, while Colin Firth was class personified and surprisingly funny.
Didn't care for Anne Hathaway or James Franco, though.
