[this is science fiction/fantasy topic, This is not about if its possible or not and i dont care about religious beliefs, so if you dont like science fiction/fantasy type of discussions get out]
I have been reading some science fiction books and one of the science fiction visions that I kinda like are the 'artificial planets'
Basically they were planet size spaceships where humans can live once the earth is over populated and even Mars , The earth's moon and Jupiter's moons have no more extra space for living.Nasa actually conceptualized many ideas about making a large spaceship where humans can live for good. This large spaceships will get energy from the sun or helium for glass planets, the materials used will be outsourced from the metals found in Asteroids.
---------
In a comic book I was reading somewhere, there is a concept of a large spaceship with the size larger than the earth's sun, it has a self sustaining energy source and inside feels more of being in a planet than a spaceship, as in there are oceans, forest mountains and islands inside that spaceship.
how come this awesome concept was never used in a freaking movie. There are tons of books and comics about it but so much in movies.
-------
How do you think it would feel like to live inside an artificial planet. Can you imagine, there will be no changes in weather, there will be no earthquakes, the only dangers will be getting hit by an asteroid or a comet.

Hiya Captain
I would love to be there for sure. Imagine the peace and stability in weather would be the best things for me - mentally and physically. Also add - no work, free food, free living... it all becomes exciting...
But hey, would I be able to access the Internet, chat with my friends and read the books? (all for free of course) - if so, I am in. Tell me when to start filing up the Application Forms

As there might be a crunch of space, we surely will not have the farms, similarly no industries up there because they would cause pollution. So I believe they would have to be imported/brought in from the other sources - earth and other non-artifical(as defined by Captain) ones. The weather would be controlled via computers and other electronic gadgets for sure.

I think there will still be work, the maintenance of the ship, they also need to raise animals and plants to have source of food,They also need to go mine soem asteroids, comets and meteors to get metal materials like metals, glass, water so they can have materials needed to maintain the ship. They also need to get helium 3 as energy source ( I think asteroids and moons are rich in Helium 3)
they also need to worry about defense againts asteroids, Well Its ironic because they need asteroids for survival but asteroids can also destroy the ship,.

Wow, interesting! I bet this can happen one day! I guess it would be pretty cool that I wouldn't have to worry about the unexpected but at the same time, maybe it will get a little boring. I would actually miss the sun or snow or winds if they got rid of any of these for the weather.

At least imagining and fantasizing is free, its nice to escape from the harshness of reality sometimes.

Imagine this, A place where the only weather were summer and spring, Plus because its so huge, it will solve the over population of earth. There will be plans and other resources human can enjoy. Inside will be an animal sanctuary too. people will live peacefully like on the John Lennon song Imagine.

It would be a very disturbing experience at the beginning. I am thinking now at what told me a friend who worked a month in the great north of Canada in Summer : the sun was quite always at the same level, and after a week all the guys have lost the notion of day and night. He said me that he was getting up and sleeping without any concept of time, going to do his job at 3 a.m. or 9 p.m. : they were not taking their meals together, and the only man who was "normal" was an Eskimo cook who was preparing meals in advance.
But, like the eskimo cook, I think that a man can adapt at every situation after a while. I believe that you can even imagine some places with an artificial weather to sunbathe, be under the rain or breath some fresh air. It would be an interesting experience and a good subject for a movie.

It might also be weird that if you look at the sky, you wont see a sky, you will see the ceiling of the ship instead. At least there will be soil in the land. There will be artificial gravity but the ship might have rooms with no gravity. I wonder if nations will be formed within the ship. But its would be stupid to have a war inside the ship, everyone will die.

Wait till I get up to one of those... I have great ideas that they can use to make us feel at home
A projection on the ceiling to give you the look and feel of the skies(from today's knowledge - use a drome like ceiling as they do in planetariums), I would hop in one of those zero gravity chambers (sorry rooms) to do my daily exercises... and for the wars... of course they are in. They would be fought on computers and I will run a detective / spy agency - Project IGI and COD has trained me well

Ya, I think of that all the time, or if there is some other life form thinking the same crap far away in another galaxy somewhere. Like there is some dude standing outside looking into the stars saying to himself I wonder if some aliens (humans) live out there somewhere?
Or if we lived with like 7 planets real close by and we visit them all the time, I think that would be rad, cause then if we screwed up one planet than we could go to the other and then fix the other one and so on and so on... ect.. ect...

yeah there would be some lonely person galaxies faraway asking 'Am I alone' Those artificial Planet would be also spaceships for travelling while searching for a new planet that can sustain life.
