I bought a new laptop. The store tech asked me what OS do I want to install, they have XP, Vista and windows7. Among the three what would you choose? What's the advantage of one from the other? hope I could get a better idea on what to install, for now I have the XP prof ed. but there is an option to change within a week. So I'm gonna need some opinion. Thanks in advance, guys.

hi, I have been using XP for a long time and it is one of the best, I think it's time is up, Microsoft came up with vista but I think the performance was dismal so they came up with Windows 7 which integrated the best of both OS's, so I think windows 7 is the best OS now because it is well supported by many programs, anyway I use a desk top PC that has a virtualization, I could always go back to XP if I want to but again I already prefer windows7 right now

Hi.. Well XP is best for all i guess. But surely you should try windows 7 too. As it is upgraded version from Microsoft over Xp and vista. So surely we should stay in touch with new technology. I have heard that soon we will gonna see windows 8 too. So for now XP is good but try new version too if you get chance.

Hi thanks for the suggestion. I haven't tried Linux before. Is it user friendly? Easy to navigate? Anyway, I have to download and maybe save a copy of ubuntu.

Well over all XP is the best OS. but you can use windows 7 if you are having enough good configuration.. In fact, I personally like to have latest OS..

From your choices, XP is by far the best one. It's much more faster than any other and more compatible with most hardware out there, provided the proper drivers are installed. It requires a much smaller hardware configuration and will run faster on high-end machines with extra CPU and memory, also demanding programs like games will often have less hardware requirements for it. Windows 7 is nothing more than a "skin" for Windows Vista, the worst OS in years, with some minor changes but the same internal buggy core behind so I would not install it if I have the choice. It's much harder to configure, with many options removed and tends to hide some useful tools and shortcuts. If not constrained by hardware drivers, I would install XP.

Hi, well because you bought a new laptop, install the windows 7 there because it is upgraded and more easy to use than XP. I also like to use ubuntu and linux mint because they are also easy to use, though if your'e a first runner in this OS, it will be a little bit difficult to explore and use. The advantage of ubuntu to windows is that it can automatically download your hardware drivers. If you are more familiar in windows, go to 7. If you want to try new or just using your computer for internet, try ubuntu or linux mint, they are more faster than windows. If you need more help, I am willing to help you.

I will personally prefer XP but since microsoft has stopped its distribution further and introduced windows 7 , which is latest you can go with it. Those of us who are comfortable with Xp find it convenient and it is more user friendly but after working with windows 7 you start liking it too, though many features which XP users are so fond of are missing in that. They are there but commands have been changed. If you have used xp before you may feel uneasy but if not windows 7 is good , it loads its drivers auto and plus has great graphics and so much more to offer.

I think XP is the most covenient and user friendly among all the OS that you have stated. I'm basing my opinion on my own experience with those OS. Vista is kind of hard to manage since some applications you have to install in your computer should be the on the latest edition. however on XP, I think you can use anything from the oldest to the newest, updated or not will work on XP. I'm not so sure about windows 7 though. but I really recommend you use XP. :)

yah, window xp is good but window 7 is cool... I like it because its new feature, but some application you will run from this os they don't have a drivers for window 7 and you will need to search it. and sometimes its difficult to find that is compatible for window 7. but maybe now there are many drivers or anything that you need to run the application that you can download for window 7

I would advice you to get Windows 7 for your new laptop. I'm using it right now and it works great. I've always used Windows XP but then I have found out that most programs especially the new ones are requiring Windows 7 for installation. Besides, Windows 7 is user-friendly and great aesthetically.

My suggestion is windows 7,I have reasons too. In windows 7,it is possible to make disk partition, possible to edit utilities, disk defragmentation can be set on a default time, and overall the system will maintain its integrity with out a tech guy near it. One more thing, windows 7 is with built in drivers it means if you need to re-install or repair it further,it is not mandatory to have the mother board CD along with you always.Further more there is not much support from the customer care of the company from them you purchased the lap-top is needed. You can customise almost all the workings of your lap-top with out much technical knowledge. Above all the graphical designs and eye loving display settings will never make you blind if you use for a prolonged time. Really nice if you will opt for a Windows 7 ultimate
