Apple iPad: What can it do, what can it not do?

I recently won an iPad in a contest, but since I already have a laptop that I like, I'm thinking of giving the iPad to my sister (whose only computer is an old, clunky laptop borrowed from her employer).
Like many people, I've heard a lot about the iPad but don't really know what it can and can't do. What I'm wondering is, could an iPad do many of the things that a laptop can? I know you can type on it more effectively if you have an external keyboard, so that's not a problem. But I'm wondering how much memory an iPad has to run apps, can it run multiple apps at once, etc.
I'm also concerned that since iPad doesn't use Flash, it won't view many websites properly unless the user had a particular app.
What do you iPad owners think? Can you do a lot of things with it that you do with your laptop?
Thanks!

By the way, next week iPad2 launching next week. Better go to apple.com for more informations and videos.
The iPad is not a replacement of your Laptop or any Desktop Computers. Just simple common sense, Apple, Inc. should have stop or drop manufacturing and selling their own desktop and portable computers like the iMacs, MacBooks, Mac Minis, Mac Air and so on. Instead Apple, Inc. just keep on updating and innovating their existing computer devices. What technologies they learned from iOS like on the iPads, they are going to apply on their Macs. Soon Mac OS X Lion will be release, and has some similar technologies from the iOS devices.
If something ain't working on your iPad, then simply use your Laptop instead. Your Laptop and iPad can work together. Too much complicated and critical works or jobs that needs a lots of memory processing that can't handle with the iPad, you can use your Laptop. To have a different portable computing experience use the iPad.
Adobe Flash was not a big deal or blunder on using iPads. Life on the internet or world wide web are not just for Adobe Flash technologies. Apple, Inc.'s website is a billion dollar website (iTune store, AppStore, iBook store), they don't use Adobe Flash technology.
What iPads can not do?. . . . Making life complicated.
iPad was designed to make simple tasks and making work easier to be done without being complicated or bloated. Like browsing the internet, checking emails, tasks, calendars, calculators, viewing photos, watching videos, reading books, listening to musics or audios, Facebook, Youtubes, Wiki, dictionary, games and so many more including administering your websites or your intranets or networks.

Thanks for the detailed info on the iPad, and for the links. I'll definitely check out Apple's page about the business uses of the iPad. Since my sister does have an old PC laptop from work, I guess she can still use that for functions that the iPad can't handle (although there might be some issues with compatibility between the Mac and PC formats.
Speaking of transferring documents, etc., does the iPad even had a USB port? Or does Apple assume that you'll be connected to the Internet most of the time, and not provide any physical jacks?

Thanks again! I had heard bits and pieces about what an iPad could do, but never really paid much attention to it since I hadn't planned on getting one. It's a whole new world of gizmos to learn about -- more than an iPhone or iPod Touch, but less than a full-fledged laptop. From what I've heard, the original iPad (the one I won) can't to multitasking, so you can only run one app at a time.
