My sister called me last week telling me about a full blooded Chihuahua that was being put to sleep because the owner's apartment complex went "pet free" , and she didn't' have time to get rid of it, so she was just going to put it to sleep. He was 6 months old, and according to my sister, very lovable, with a great personality.
I told her there was no way I could take another dog. We already had 2 in the house, and my husband let me know there was not going to be anymore than two ( which I completely understood ) So, all day it just ate at me, knowing it was going to be put to sleep.
When he came in from work I told him about it, but then I finished with the sentence " I can't just let that dog be put to sleep, I can keep it until I can find a home for it" So, I headed to the phone to call my sister, that evening I had the dog.
His name is "boots" and he is not a full blooded Chihuahua, but some sort of mix. That was okay, because his personality was just prefect, and oh those great big ears was just too adorable. He had this thing for ear lobes, he loved to nibble on them, but all he wanted to do was lay in your lap, and have his belly rubbed.
I ended up finding him a home within two days, but I am here to tell you , it was hard letting him go. My girls, as well as me, hated my husband for a couple of hours after letting him go, lol. I emailed the lady back only a couple of hours of giving "boots" to her , telling her I would take him back if it didn't work out, but they were thrilled to have him, of course !
It turned out that the lady did not take care of the dog, and would kick him when he got up under her feet. I also had to treat him for fleas and worms. I am just so thankful that "Boots" is with a loving family with 3 children ( he loved kids ), and is very happy. It would have been such a wasted life, to have put him down.

Hi
I am a dog lover and we have four dogs at home - two males, two females, in a sense - a complete family, Papa,Mama, son and daughter. I would have been a real pity, if it was put to sleep. You have really done a compassionate act by giving it a new life. God will surely bless you for that.

Wow, you have your hands full, but I bet you are filled with bunches of love from all of them.
I have what I call a small habitat going, my two inside dogs, six guinea pigs, two betta fish, a aquarium, and two outdoor cats. What can I say..I love animals !

You are really a kind mother. Glad for the dog that it has got a loving family to live with now with your kind-hearted help. We should always learn to respect the life of other creatures, especially the lovely dogs who are so loyal to the owners.
It's lucky for Boots to meet your sister and you.

Thank you very much for the kind words. But, do let me say...you hit it on the nail when you mentioned dogs being loyal to the owners, and yet they get treated the way they do, and the dog would still continue to be loyal.
I would hate to think that us humans would not have the choice to leave a bad environment like some of these dogs live in.

Some people are so horrible, I can't believe some people. But you did such a wonderful job, and such a good deed for this little cutie! It really shows what a wonderful person you are!
Still, I can't help but get a bit sad when I hear how cruel some people - the original owner - are.

I can say this..I would do it again in a heart beat, even though I tend to get attached. It does sadden me so much to think what people do to their animals, that is why the thought of that dog being put to sleep ate at my soul all day. There are many feelings I don't act on, but thank god above I acted on this one !

oh that's a heart warming story, and I'm very glad that you got to save Boots in your own way, would had been better still if you got to keep the dog, I'm sure you and the kids had a hard time letting him goanyway, anything is good rather than putting the nice guy to sleep

Yes, I do think it would have been nice to be able to keep "boots", but with my problem with dog hair, it would have been worse, so I really understood where he was coming from by not wanting to me to keep it. However, I really am thinking that if something happens to our 13 old baby, I am going to regret not keeping "boots". But, everything happens for a reason, and I have to believe that the new family is enjoying him as much as I did ( and my girls ) in the little time I did have him . At least I did what I set out to do and that was find the lap loving dog a good home.

It is indeed not only very sad how animals are treated, but really sicking ! I am not a cruel person but I think sometimes that the owners should be treated the way they have chosen to treat their pet.
I think that is great that your husband thinks of your dogs as his baby. My oldest dog, 13 years old is the child that my husband and I could not have. We got her when we got married. She is our baby, okay...well she is more like a "daddy's girl" lol.

What an awesome story!! YES!! This is what I'm talking about!! If only there were more of you around!! Bless you for being so kind hearted and doing what you did for this sweet and cute little guy!! He's adorable!! His new family and him are going to be just fine! I'm sure of it! He's going to have the time of his life with those three kids, no doubt! I wonder who'll wear who out first before bedtime comes?
