Spring Garden

I live in SC and I'm getting a spot ready for some tomatoes and cucumbers.Have never done this before.All new to me.My father in law is the one who always had the garden.and since he passed away a few years ago,we have had no decent vegetables.And the ones in supermarkets do not have the quality of taste as thouse fresh from the garden.So we are gonna give it a try this year and see how it goes.Would love any suggestions on planting.We are in my father in laws house and his yard has really good garden soil.He never had a problem with a garden.But he a green thumb.Mine is not.But I'm not gonna give up,either.We figured starting with tomatoes and cucumbers would be an easy start into gardening.
